Excellent effort. Other things other than the obvious: 6 for 6 on the PK. Bryzgalov kept the door shut after getting down 2-0. A few weeks ago, the Flyers would have to gut out a 7-6 win or something. Maybe people will be talking about this team again tomorrow.
Crappy 1st period, very good 2nd period and after a shaky start to the 3rd period we controlled the game really well. We might be the only team that will take two penalties in the past seven minutes when being up by five goals though. Guess it was good for our pk to get some practice, they sure could use it based on how they've played lately.
Giroux and Hartnell really picked up their games. Hope they can continue like this from here on. I like what I see from Schenn as well. He didn't get any points tonight, but he doesn't hesitate on what to do. He was having a tough time winning a faceoff, but he was up against Gaustad most of the times I believe.
Good for Bryzgalov to shut the door after that terrible second Sabre goal.
So, if none of our sick/injured players are able to return for the next game... we'll call up Holmstrom and Scrabbles I suppose? Hartnell-Giroux-Read, Simmonds-Couturier-Voracek, Wellwood-Schenn-Talbot, Shelley-Holmstrom-Zolnierczyk. That's a pretty decent forward lineup still.
I wonder what they'll do with Bourdon and Gustafsson. I'm guessing they'll send Gustafsson down when Meszaros returns. If we could keep them both up, that might be a good idea though. I think Bourdon could stand to be rested once in a while down the stretch, and I'd rather have Gustafsson as his replacement than Lilja. Not sure what implications that would have cap-wise though. It might hurt our chances of adding some other piece before the deadline's passed.
Bryz was obviously rusty in the first period and let up a terrible goal, but I feel like this game will be a springboard for the rest of the season and the team will just build on this game. It's about time to have a stretch that we ride the offense an bryz
Eventually my gamecenter feed my stop being broken so I can watch the 3rd.
Glad to see this team respond well after that terrible first period, and I'm glad to see Bryz didn't let any more goals in after that horrendous second goal. Pitt is up next, let's see if this team can actually beat a good opponent. Beating up Buffalo is nice, but they're at the bottom of the conference.
Hopefully nothing too serious with Briere.
Down in the basement, I've got a Craftsman lathe. Show it to the children when they misbehave.
so you accept the D for leaving Pomminville completely alone?
With our defensive personnel that sort of thing is simply going to happen. I can live with it (unhappily) so long as they aren't doing it all damn night. Bryzgalov, however, CAN'T let in that second goal. He's been letting those in all season. Defensive breakdowns happen; they happen to every team, no matter how good they are defensively. However, that goal simply should never happen. If I have to watch any more of those terrible goals while he's tying down his 5.6 mil cap hit my eyes will grow cataracts out of self defense; otherwise the awfulness will burn them out of my head. I'm tired of the Booshy/Leightony goals. Enough is seriously enough. There's been one almost every game he's played.
Edit: With the way our team is defensively, we really need our expensive goaltending solution to actually be our goaltending solution. Seeing him continue to let those goals in doesn't inspire loads of hope.
