Contracts offered to Kelly, Pialle, Thornton, Campbell

Didn't see it mentioned so I'll post here.

Per Bob McKenzie twitter.

After signing Boychuk to extension this week, BOS has made contract ext offers to Kelly, Thornton, Campbell and Paille, all UFAs July 1.

I didn't expect Thornton to be re-signed, 35 is rather old for an enforcer.

Are we all expecting that they will accept the extensions?

Thornton loves Boston and likely wants to retire here. I have the feeling any contract he is offered will be short term and will likely still involve a hometown discount. I figure he is going to go one year two at most. And for enforcer types he isn't a waste of space on his line-he can play decent hockey and had a career year last year and is doing pretty well this year.

I think Paille and Campbell may test waters elsewhere though. I am pretty sure Paille could get another team to pay him more than Boston is willing to pay. Campbell too maybe. I think for them it comes down to how much they want to stay in Boston. I am pretty sure the offers will be fair, but they might find more money somewhere else.

My guess is that all except Kelly will take these extensions. Kelly might wait a little longer to sign but it he doesn't sign by the trade deadline he won't sign at all.

It's a diplomatic gesture even if nothing comes of it.

Chia really wants to keep this team together and I applaud that.

I think Thornton will be the first and maybe only one to take it. I don't know about the others. They could all get decent raises elsewhere I think.

I think Kelly think's with the numbers he's putting up this year he'll get in the 3.5-4m range. Joel Ward got 3m and posted 10g 19a last year. Kelly has 14g 12a so far this year. Other things to consider is Ott fans have been lobbying for him to return and:

And Kelly also has to make a decision along with the Bruins. Is he content in Boston? Or is his heart still in Ottawa, if the Senators were to come calling?

"It is a tough question," he said. "Right now, I'm happy in Boston, and my family is happy here. We've got a great group of guys, a great team, a great coaching staff.

Most players who are in contract years say they want to stay and work out a deal etc The "it's a tough question" part makes me think he'll more inclined to wait and see what's out there unless the B's offer blows him away both in terms of dollars and most importantly years. I could be wrong though. Only time will tell.

He wasn't qualified by Montreal.

Very disappointed - now I won't get to see MacDermid - Whitfield - Hamill dream 4th line
