Agreed on all accounts.

As long as they re-sign him I don't mind the trade. Let Carle walk or trade his rights for a pick this off-season and Gus can fill in for Carle as a offensive d-man next year. try for suter if available and they'll be ok IMO:

Suter-Kimmo
Mez-Coburn
Grossman-Gus
Lilja

Guys might have to switch sides but they'll get used to it. And I would actually prefer MAB as the 7th but we got Lilja for another yr w/that 35+ contract.

Quote I saw made it sound like they talked then as he saw how things developed with the D corps through the season I don't think he wanted to re-sign him. He wants and increased role for Fistric and sees Nemeth(somewhat of a Grossman clone with more physicality and some puck moving ability) possibly being a full-time guy sometime next season.

The Flyers still could end up with a 2nd round pick in 2012 from the Versteeg trade.

they still have Florida's 3rd in 13.

I like the deal. it will be better if he gets resigned. The Flyers have needed a guy like this for a little while now.

well as Pierre says, he gives us a "big body presence". some that has been lacking on the blue line here.

Somewhat high price for essentially a rental if we don't sign him, but the picks weren't ours, and if he wants to stay, he won't be that expensive I imagine. Either way, we hopefully fulfilled a need. Good stuff.

Solid trade. Fair value for 2nd and a 3rd that would not turn into much anyway.
I bet Homer plans to resign that guy.

In their thread about the deal there's a quote from Panaccio who apparently misread Grossman's numbers with Souray's, and thought we'd gotten some PP help with this deal. Boy, will he be disappointed.
hahaha awesome.

I like the deal and I like Homers comments. Sounds like Grossman replaces Gustaffson and Bourdon stays.

Timonen-Coburn
Carle-Bourdon
Meszaros-Grossman

Grossman eats up PK time. I really hope they don't "bartulis" Bourdon and play him as a seventh dman. He is going to make mistakes and he isn't perfect, but IMO he has proven he deserves to play in the top 6. If he moves to the 7th D, then just send him down so he can play. Same for Gus, keep Lilja in the pressbox and send down the kid, he still has some work to do, but I like him as an injury replacement and a black ace in the playoffs.

Gus and Bourdon should just alternate.

Grossman only make 1.65 million now. I wonder if we can extend him for around 2.75 million?

Really because he is listed as a Defenseman on the OPJHL team he played on prior to the OHL, and listed as a D when he played for the Battalion.....Not to mention if he was played as a forward in Juniors despite being listed as a d-man, to have successfully completed that transformation in only one year is hard to believe.

I think you just have your facts wrong.

One cool thing I just noticed about Grossman, is that despite being a defense first guy with almost 100 hits, he doesn't seem to take many penalties to put the team down.

Burns switched back and forth from D to F a lot.

he played Forward on some of the WJC teams and I know he spent partial seasons with the Wild at F too (when they had injuries up front)

You want to talk about rentals? Think Adam Oates! My worse Flyers trade. I do hope we sign Nik. But it is not the end of the world if we do not. However you know the brass will put the full court press on to get him signed long term. Bye Matt Carle.

We got him cheap compare to what Clerke gave up for Gauthier.

Two concern about Grossman. His giveaway, he has 25 and his takeaways he has only 4. He can play a very simple but very effective game. Not sure if he ever realizes that he is 6.4 230lbs.

Come on now. Don't you think the Flyers did their homework on him before they swung this deal? There have been rumours about him coming here for some time now.

He is not Pronger. But he gives us the crease clearing defenceman we are lacking.
