Carlson and Alzner are two guys that the Caps just aren't going to trade any time soon.

Luke Schenn is a defencive defenceman. That roll may takes longer to develop at the NHL level than nearly any other.
No. Hits are nice, but more important for a defenseman is his positioning and hockey sense.

As for +/-, it could be high because Schenn is good, or because his coach is afraid to put him out there against scoring lines. On its own it doesn't say much. When you combine it with the fact that he is 6th in ice time among dmen, rather than looking more impressive it seems to me to be indicative that he is playing mostly against the other team's bottom 6 each night.

Case in point, Jeff Schultz leading the league in +-. Either he was a defensive god that year or he spent lots on time on ice with Ovechkin and company and away from the opposition top lines.

Carlson isn't going anywhere except for the already mentioned excessive over payment. This deal does not meet that requirement.

As for Carlson's "sophomore slump" the whole team is inconsistent to the point of annoyance so no big deal.

Not bad, but wouldn't Marcus Johansson make more sense from Toronto's POV?

It doesn't matter what makes more sense from Toronto's POV... the player has to be realistically available...

and it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that Alzner, Carlson, Johansson, Orlov (ie; the young guys that are playing on the caps now) are not available in a trade...

and as someone said earlier... it Carlson didn't go out for Pronger, he's not going out in a trade for Grabovski or Schenn...

be realistic and reverse the trade.

Why would the Caps give up a player they are high on for a Center that is a UFA and a D that is one dimensional? they wouldn't and won't

Im just saying from Toronto's POV. gosh no reason to be rude, a simple no would suffice.
