Trent Hunter put on waviers [Cleared] [Assigned to Manchester]

It starts...

http://lakingsinsider.com/2012/02/17...er-on-waivers/

Quote:
The move is designed to make room for Jarret Stoll, who is eligible to return tomorrow for the injured-reserve list, and it would seemingly be good news for rookies Dwight King and Jordan Nolan, one of whom would have been subject to return to Manchester upon Stoll’s return.

Making room for when Stoll returns from injury I presume. Hunter looked good in camp and in a very few select games but other than that this move gets a big "meh".

Nice to see the Kings actually using their farm and trusting their youngsters for once. Enough with the get a veteran for every prospect plan, if the kid can do it, let him do it. Those jobs should have went to youngsters in the first place.

Seems like both Moreau and Hunter were brought in until they felt the kids were ready, Moreau was waived after Lotkionov secured his spot, Hunter is being waived after it looks like Nolan or King can play....

Hmmm...sounds like a plan to me....

Good. I was a big supporter of getting him for depth in the off-season, but he's clearly not going to be the same player he was before the injury. At this point I'd rather keep going with Nolan and King on the wings than Hunter. We need to roll the dice with tings on the bottom two lines right now, and Hunter was snake eyes most of the time. Nolan at least will fight and King will go to the net it seems.

Now to get rid of Richardson, Stoll, Penner and Lewis and replace them with guys who either will earn their paycheque or who at least have some upside.

Usually i agree with you sjmay, but this time I think it was more of failed expectations for Moreau and Hunter, especially Hunter. I think DL was hoping for something closer to the pre-injury Hunter, 10 goals 25-30 points on the third line.

Largely, our entire bottom two lines have failed to even come within the same hemisphere as their pre-season expectations (not that the top two lines are a lot better).

Yeah, that's why I called it one too, just not a great one. We are trying to emulate Detroit, but we aren't Detroit.

Like you said, if. Have to fill out the roster somehow. With Holloway, Moller, and Elkins all going to Europe, Manchester needed players too. Were King and Nolan, or anyone on Manchester, ready for the NHL in October? If they couldn't beat out a training camp tryout, I'm guessing no. Moreau is one thing, he had a contract. Hunter didn't. There's nothing wrong with a little bit more time in the AHL.

If the top players on this team were earning their paychecks, Hunter having little impact wouldn't be as big a deal. Since the Kings aren't getting much from anyone up front, even the mild expectations for a guy like Hunter get magnified.

Meh. I disagree that they were inadequate at camp. These are fourth/third line roles. It is not like I disagree with Dean's policy and planning, but it just seems like most of our depth chart isn't receiving a fair shake. Not every prospect is going to make it and not every one that makes it will be on the Kings, but we now have a little bit of a history developing with bleeding away capable players not getting a fair shake.

All I am saying is that I am glad that that is starting to go away this season now that we have a surge of Voynov, Loktionov, Nolan, and King stepping in. We are relying on and trusting our depth chart a little more and it is nice to see. In the past, it was usually one at a time for top 6, bottom 6, and bottom pairing outside of someone like Doughty. It is a meaningless observation, because it is not our money, and the contracts have no consequence, I would just like to see more prospect development and more results through such a system, and it is nice to notice it more this year than previous years.

You mean you're not happy with Craig Johnson II?

But seriously, that guy had 5 very good opportunities last night & failed. Oh well.

Moreau, Stoll, Penner and Hunter all out of the lineup.

The Kings have no shot at a cup now without veteran leadership.

As did everyone else! I thought Lewis was our best player not named Quick last night. At least he drove to the net and got rebounds.

Agreed. He isn't putting the puck in the net, but nobody is. He's flying out there and has really started playing more physical since Sutter was hired.
