Guys like Kopitar and Brown should thank their lucky stars they are playing in a small market. Brown in February:8 games, no goals, 2 assists, minus 1, 8 shots on goal-the core is rotten. Quick should be the only untouchable in the organization from Lombardi down. More accountability!

After last night's games:

Projected points needed for playoffs - 90
Current points - 65
Games remaining - 24

Projected record to make the playoffs as the #8 seed - 12-11-1

Current pace - 92 points, tied with Phoenix for #8 seed, lose the Wins tiebreaker, play Detroit in the first round.

Needed to move up to #7 seed (and matchup with Vancouver) - 28 points (14-10 record, .583 winning percentage).

Sutter Points Percentage (12-6-7) = .620. Projects out to 95 points total (15-9 record), and a lost tie with Chicago, still settling at #7 seed.

Needed to move up to #6 seed (and matchup with San Jose) - 31 points (15-8-1 record, .646 percentage)

Needed to win Pacific division - 39 points (19-4-1 record, .813 percentage)

If we take out the three head-to-head games against San Jose, to stay in the running for the Pacific, the Kings need to stay within 6 points in the other 79 games. San Jose projects out to 99 points in those 79 games, meaning the Kings need 93 in their 79 to tie... likely would lose the tiebreaker, so they would need 94 points in their other 79 games. That's 29 more points in 21 more games (14-6-1 record, .690 percentage)... PLUS a three-game regulation sweep of the Sharks.

Now, all that said, I have to say that those of you who are saying "The Ducks are going to push the Kings out of the playoffs" -- that's an overreaction. The Flames or Stars might push them out of the playoffs (currently on pace to finish three and four points behind the Kings, respectively), but the Ducks are still only on pace to finish 10 points behind the Kings. While they're charging, I don't see them charging THAT hard.

But those two remaining games with Calgary pretty much do become "must-win" situations, if the Kings still want to maintain control of their own destiny when it comes to actually slipping into the playoffs.

I'm curious where this number comes from. It has taken 97 and 95 points in the last 2 seasons to make the last playoff spot in the Western Conference (and 91 the 2 seasons before that)

I'm guessing the current pace of the 8th team in point percentage extrapolated over 82 games.

This.

Quick plays with a lot of heart. And he even tries to start a fight or gets involved in scrums in front of his net. Our "core" could learn a thing or two from him.

Considering how bad our offense was last night. I have to admit, I was entertained, the fights were awesome.
