Geoffrion is a nice kid, and a great hometown story, but as an NHL prospect-- he's 24 years old, and struggling to score in the AHL. If he makes the NHL, it will be as a bottom line guy.
I'm more bummed about the pick, honestly.
I think this spells the end of Jack Hillen as a nashville predator(waived tomorrow, i'd bet) and I think Ellis either goes back to Milwaukee or is traded.
Weber Suter
Gill Klein
Josi Bouillon
Yeah, Ellis getting points and is alright on D so far and you think he is getting shaft before Bull?
Are serious???
He will be paired with Gill. And he'll get more opp on offense.
Agreed with the assessment that DP had to give a lot. I think Gill can be effective in post season for the Preds. Boom Boom clearly needs a fresh start, and perhaps the Habs are not as well-stocked in the 4th line grinder type. I would say that Bourque shows more promise right now that Boom Boom. And for those mentioning the PR win for ML, you are right. This will yield them something positive; likely the only other place that his heritage or up-bringing are a factor.
Wow, we just got a lot bigger on the blue line. Exactly what we needed. A guy who can clear the front of the net against the big boys in the NHL.
What does his contract look like? Will he be in a Preds Uni tonight?
I don't too much about your defensive pair, but it would be extremely realistic to put him on the third pair, he won't play more than 15 minutes a game. Also put him with a guy who got a good speed to back him to avoid breakaway from the opposite forwards.
Guys .. we all love Gill in Montreal but don't expect ANY physical presence or clearing the front of net or anything of the sort ... he is not that type of player whatsoever .. Gill has 48 hits this year ..
He has tremendous leadership and is amazing in the room, he is a tremendous positional player on the PK and really blocks shots and plays passing angles really well on the PK.
5 vs 5 he will struggle, specially against teams with lots of speed, so you'll have to manage his minutes to bottom pairing minutes. He will be better in the playoffs because less penalties will be called and he has a ton of experience that he knows how to use well, he knows what he can get away with. You will find teams dumping the puck more behind Gill because they know he has a really tough time turning and retrieving dump ins for example.
But don't expect any physical play or him to be physical in front of the net or anything of that nature
Very pleased with this trade. Sad to see Bam Bam go, but really for the best. The 2nd round pick was steep but will be worth it if Gill plays physically, clears the crease, and stands up for hornqvist.
One down one to go. Top 6/top 3 forward next. I suspect Poile will try to nab AK, Whitney, etc and not try to get the top tier guys.

Gill has 48 hits this season and will not clear the crease he doesn't play that style of game.
overpayment imo... but hey thats the norm for a deadline deal.. gill is okay.. he's a pylon sometimes from what ive seen but he'll suffice on the 3rd pair and ive only heard great things about him as a PK-er.. something we need to improve. would have liked to see a 3rd and geoffrion going the other way (slaney is irrelevant) .. geoffrion just looked out of place this year in the NHL

Poile admitted as much on the radio today. Basically said, "I didn't like the price, but the options were limited and only going to get more expensive, so I went ahead and paid it."

kudos to poile then. he knows the market better than us.. and pulling the trigger this early even its overpayments tells me alot. very pleased with poile even if he isn't able to land a top 3 forward.
note: yes I said top 3 not top 6. I dont want another "good" scorer. if you can't land someone around nash or carter's abilities, hold on to our 1st rounder and get ready for the playoffs
Win - win. You guys win in the present: You get a great PK specialist and a leader/mentor with a ton of playoff experience. Montreal probably benefits in the near-future, though it's tough to predict by how much.
Gill is terrific. Another reason to root for the Preds! Best of luck.

I agree with Poile and I think Gill is one of the better options for defensive depth, BUT
The frustrating part is why don't we go after decent defensive depth in the offseason? We let guys like SOB and Zanon walk for cheap, don't go after relatively cheap options (like Gill)... and then we have to massively overpay at the deadline to get them.
I guess this comes down to Geofferion. If he's a marginal NHL/AHL player, giving up a 2nd and him isn't too bad. If he becomes a good NHLer, we paid a steep price.
As for Gill, I think he'll be a decent fit, potentially a really good fit if he still has some playoff mojo left.
