The only incentive in trading for nash is to get a top prospect back if we are to give up our two way center and our top dman.
Nash is overrated. you have to overpay to get him. They need a young powerfull foward that dont cost alot. Plekanec is not young, not powerfull and does cost $$
the trade would be awesome for us.
but i doubt that we can get 1st CBJ and Nash

Perhaps if you were the GM for Columbus that would work but since Howson is the one who makes the decisions there, I doubt that you know what he would take for Nash

My friend for the $ they make ( contract ) Subban is actually way more coveted then Nash.

At 7.8 million and 29 years of age. I'd consider Nash worth less than any of Plekanec, Subban, Price and Pacioretty.

Nash is a more potent offensive player than Plekanec but Plekanec has a number of advantages over him:

1. Higher impact position (all things equal, centers more valuable than wingers).
2. Plekanec is an excellent matchup player at even strength. To get the most out of Nash you need to manage his matchups. This also reflects Plekanec's huge defensive value relative to Nash
3. Plekanec is elite on the penalty kill, good on the power play. Nash only is useful for one special team.

Their of a similar age so that isn't a factor. Actually it probably helps Plekanec more because a two-way centerman tends to have a his prime later in his career than an offensive winger, who peak and fall early.

Overall a Plekanec probably does as much or more to help the team win than Nash at 2.8 smaller of a cap hit. Plus MTL is strong on the wings but not that great at C. I wouldn't trade Nash for Plekanec straight up. I think one for one its just a sideways move at best for MTL an offensive upgrade that guts the team's defensive game.

Pacioretty does most of what Nash does and at 22 you have him for almost his entire career including cheap RFA years rather than getting a 29 year old. Subban, number one defenseman is more valuable than star winger, before getting into age and contract status. Price, great goalie isn't worth as much as a great winger but again, star RFA versus veteran with a large contract. Plus the system is barren after Price in goaltending, you'd have to gamble with the free agent market for a goaltender.

I don't think Nash is a good fit for Montreal, the kind of assets they'd want back are ones that probably are more valuable to Montreal than Nash, especially since the biggest thing they'll want back is a good young goaltender and Montreal doesn't have one to spare.

Plus a star winger with a big cap hit doesn't really fit the teams current needs. The only way it would make sense is if they can sell quantity for quality, i.e. secondary assets like Eller, Desharnais, Beaulieu, Bourque, Gionta, Diaz, Weber etc. And other teams that are more in "win now or never" mode would be willing to outbid that.

What do ou mean? Why on earth would Nash NOT want to play for anyother team than Montreal? The highest taxes in North America, the language issue, the craziest media, most fickle fan base and ice cold winters! He'd be border line retarded to to only want to come here.

* I was told that The Canadiens may be talking to Columbus and may indeed be taking their newly acquired Second Rounder from Nashville with them. I do not get a strong sense the Habs are talking about Nash, but rather exploring Carter or Brassard. The Blue Jackets very much made it known they want to recoup what they gave up for Carter (a #1 pick (Couturier) and Voracek) so perhaps the Habs #2 and and #1 or a pair of picks and a prospect...etc..

Let's hope PG is not looking at this possibily... CBL were dumb enough to give that package for Carter, let's not be dumber by doing it a second time.

uhhh no. Too both players. Not interested in giving a 2nd for Brassard, Not interested in giving our lottery pick and a 2nd rounder for Carter.

Gauthier is in a position where he can help this team very well.

We have 2 2nd rounders this year and next.

He should package 2ND(NSH)'12 and 2nd(CGY)'13 with a prospect like Kristo or something see if it can get us close to a top 10 1st rounder this year or next.

I don't know if its really worth it to go out and get a big name with the salaries. We are starting to get a real good taste of what that brings.

Well i'd take Carter on the habs anytime but not at the cost of Paciorretty Subban price.

I'd swap Plekanec for him just so we have a elite goal scorer and a bigger team.

Our 1st and nash 2nd for Carter i'd have to think long about it but that would mean Plekanec or Gomez is out.

People talking like Carter is a scrub the guy is 27 and scored 36 goals is big and good at faceoffs.

If we indeed get Carter to the habs our 1st pick would likely be a 8-10 pick not a lottery.

1st picks are so overrated on hfboards.

Carter like to party so what he can play freakin hockey what the guy is doing when he is not on the ice is none of our damn business.

Now that we are definite sellers, I believe Moen and AK are next to go. Here, are some trade proposals I think would be great for us.

To Vancouver:
Moen
Nashville's 2nd

To Montreal:
Vancouver's 1st

Here, Moen moves us up in the draft by 20 spots roughly from mid-2nd to low 1st. Vancouver gets some muscle and a winner. They don't have many guys who have won before.

To Los Angeles:
Kostitsyn

To Montreal:
Los Angeles' 2nd
Hickey

LA gets some more offense and only give up a late 2nd and a prospect who is probably falling out of favor.

We end up with 2nd rounders (ours + LAs) still and get a 1st rounder as well. Hickey has regressed since his draft and maybe a change will give him a second life.

Didn't Nashville sell the farm a couple years ago to acquire an aging, oft-injured Peter Forsberg? Ryan Parent, Scottie Upshall, a first (which became Timonen and Hartnell) and a third? Maybe Poile has a thing for giving up young players at the deadline.

However the rumour is false - we'd have to send someone else back with Kostitsyn at the very least to make the contracts work.

If this is the case. I would do the offer posted earlier:

Montreal
Moen
2nd round pick'12(NSH)

for

Vancouver
1st round pick'12

then.....

Montreal
Kostitsyn

for

St Louis
1st round pick'12

Go into the draft with 3 first round picks. We could be looking at picks such as:

Ryan Murray
Radek Faksa
Tom Wilson
Brendan Gaunce
Griffin Reinhart
Alex Galchenyuk

I don't think the Habs will be a top 3, I think 4-7th pick. Then use Vancouver and St.Louis's late picks for guys like Gaunce and Wilson.

I'd rather go after Johnson if we're getting an LA D. Perhaps AK, Moen +. It's pretty clear LA wants to clear some space, and Johnson is a Habs fan who is pretty good.
