Favorite Habs "Role Player / Grinder" of yours!

90% of the Habs board agrees or loves Gorges and Emelin. Their value doesnt show up with points total. I was wondering who were your favorite Habs unsung heros from the past.

I have to admit i really like Mike Mcphee as a youngster.. the guy was scoring 20 goals a year, playing on the PK and droppin the mitts to protect a teammate.

He wasn't a star player but he was doing is job to perfection.

Honnorable mentions to: Mike Keane and Craig Ludwig

Kovalev. Just for his intangibles in elbowing that ugly ****er Tucker(rhymes) in the face.

Easy one for me: Mike Keane.

Little guy who played big, worked hard, completely fearless, not afraid of anything. In Theoren Fleury's book "Playing with Fire," Fleury states that all of Keane's success in the NHL came purely from hard work as he had zero talent - his hard work trumped the talent when the talent failed to work hard. My absolute favourite player in the past 20 years!

I'm his size so seeing a little guy do well makes me happy!

a lot of good ones here already... some honourable mentions: Brian Skrudland, Brent Gilchrist, Later-days Ryan Walter, Rick Green and Ludwig on defence.

Give me those guys to muck things up and hold a lead every time.

I liked Andreas Dackell in the dark years.
The other ones have already been named. Skrudland, Stevenson, Nilan, Ludwig.

Ferguson - despised his opponents - fierce competitor
Jim Roberts - probably at top of the list
Nilan - pound for pound great fighter that learned to really play the game

Gotta love Darche for his awesome dedication. He's been taking **** for being untalented forever, and he still keeps on playing his game.

EDIT: forgot the OP lol, definitely Odelein and Stevenson.

I had wished we could have kept Lapierre, but am I ever glad to have White back. I have a feeling that guy is gonna be a great part of the team for a long time.

I dont know why, but I always liked Bill Lindsay, even though he wasn't here long.

Loved Begin until the ridiculous costly penalties. Fell off the bandwagon quickly.

And Jan Bulis was my favourite forward for years. Too bad he got a little too high on himself because I thought he was a great 3rd liner.

Lyle Odelein, Francis Boullion, Mike Keane, Turner Stevenson, Guy Carbonneau.
Loved Darcy Tucker with Montreal, hated him with the Leafs.

Knuckles Nilan

and one from my Dad's day who I've had the pleasure to get to know before his passing....

John Ferguson

Both were tough guys who could score and play a regular shift. That is the kind of player we need more of. Hopefully White can do that

Not sure if you consider Carbonneau a role player but if so ..

Carbonneau
Keane
Odelein
Corson

Of the current ones - Darche

And honourable mention to Brunet .. he was awesome in 93 .. 10 pts in 20 games for a role player and brilliant in a shutdown role IMO .. watch the 93 playoffs again, you will notice how brilliant he played in terms of the little things (PK, covering his man, covering for a pinching Dman, never caught out of position, stick position, etc..)
