Looks like Gaunce is yet another player whose strong play in all 3 zones is actually scaring draft watchers away.

Except for Gaunce scoring much more than Chipchura in his draft season, on a team that scores much less.

Chips had over 100 PIMs at the end of the year. And saying 'he's scoring much more'. The W was notably lower scoring (at least at that time) than the OHL is.

Chips was rated highest NA skater in mid-terms (which would have made him 3rd overall had the draft been in January based on ranking) for a reason.

Chipchura's teammates were not "notably lower scoring" than any of Gaunce's teammates this season. Gaunce doesn't have anyone producing close to the numbers Leonard put up on his team.

Central Scouting rankings don't mean much. By March, Chipchura was not in the ISS top ten - http://www.hockeysfuture.com/article...h2004_ranking/ Also worth noting, 2004 was a very thin draft.

Anyway, the point is that Gaunce is proving to be more offensively gifted than Chipchura. To assume because they both built a reputation for being tough and responsibly, that they share the same ceiling offensively, is illogical.

Also Chipchura was drafted under the old rules where he would have been a better player with more clutching and grabbing.

And his injury reduced his skating ability (which was already average at best) further, making his lack of speed a real liability which it wasn't before the achilles injury. It wasn't great to begin wit, but it was workable; the Achilles injury ended the hope of it being workable.

Timmins and Boisvert watching this excellent Sea Dogs/Remparts game in person...

And Carolina is up 2-0 on SJ, #3 could be possible...

It depends Columbus is drafting a forward but Carolina might be tempted to get Murray and Anaheim needs d prospects too. I could also see the Bolts taking a dman.

I think Galchenyuk would be available if we drafted 6-7 for sure and that would be a steal for us. Who knows if we are top 5 we might get grigorenko like you say.

choosing between Grigorenko and Galchenyuk is tough. I can't help but be intrigued by Galchenyuk. I am confident that we will have a choice of Grigorenko, Galchenyuk and Forsberg, which makes me smile.

Hopefully we'll be able to grab a faller with that new 2nd rounder.
I still want Matteau with the first one.

matteau has good but not great upside...no way we should take him with our 1st, he belongs in the 25-40 range.

Thinking we draft either Galchenyuk or Forsberg. Its unlikely we get to top 2.

If one of those two fall to us I'll be thrilled. This draft has a lot of high potential D and a lot of bad teams right now are desperate for defenders, so there's a good chance we can get one of those guys.

The first one as in the first 2nd rounder.

Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I only saw a couple of games from Grigorenko, and I don't think he should be drafted 2nd overall. May be I was unlucky and only saw his bad games.

The only team that could take Matteau with a 1st would be the Rangers.

If we fall at #10-12 or so, would you want Girgensons? I think that Girgensons can be had at #10-12...

I agree.. Watched the Seadogs Remps game tonight and was desapointed once again with Grigorenko.. The kid looks pretty raw, at least 2 years away from the NHL IMO.. He reminds me a bit of Esposito right now..

On another side Beaulieu played well, the kid has some serious skills as we all know.. was overall solid tonight..

Montreal 2012 Draft

I've figured it out.

We're taking Trouba just throw in the towel now.

He's american, a defenseman, tall... it's all over guys.

If we take Trouba over Reinhart I will start crying.

Okay not that much...

Let's say Yakupov/Grigorenko/forsberg/galchenyuk are not on the board when our first pick is on I see us going with a dman...And i wouldn't mind it.
One of Murray, Trouba, Dumba, Reinhart, Ceci and Maata should be good.

But its hard to figure out because the first round is great...

Forwards like Gaunce, Girgensson, Aberg, Collberg, Faksa, Athanasiou and Hertl could also be great addition to our prospect pool.

Best scenario is we land Forsberg/Galchenyuk and in the second we can land a dman of high quality (Pouliot maybe?) and another forward (Frk maybe ...)

I LOVE DRAFTS !!!!

I think i like the draft more than games -_-

I agree it's pretty obvious if he's available we will be taking Trouba. Doesn't matter if we pick 1st overall or 10th. He's our guy. May as well take him and go for Di Giuseppe too.

If we win the lottery and end up with the #2 pick I hope we trade down a few spots to take Galchenyuk or Forsberg. Grigorenko will be a perpetual headache who will crumble under the pressure in Montreal. He has serious flags regarding work ethic and I have personally seen enough of that from Kostitsyn, Kovalev, Samsonov etc...

Because he is a consensus #2 we will get a decent package and still be able to pick in the top ten. It would be a no-brainer for me even if we take one of the top ranked d-men.

I think he would be a great pick but thinking about it, our D core is already very strong for the future with kids like Emelin and Diaz blossoming.. I would go for the best foward avalaible personally..

Gorges Subban

Diaz Emelin

Beaulieu Tinordi

Ellis\Bennett
