Don't think that was a Flyres photo... rather a camera one from a blogger attending practice.

What do you think that the Flyers just pulled his name out of a hat?!! Yes they just blindly made a deal for someone they did not scout and just hope he is someone who can help the team. Some people just cannot stand to give this organization any credit! Maybe they should stay on the kings site and bash our head coach to them.

Grossman has just three goals and 41 points in 333 career games with the Stars and the past few seasons has seemingly hit a bit of a stumbling block. Despite his size, Grossman never embraced his physical side and was limited in the overall effectiveness he had during games. While he has been one of the Stars best penalty-killing defensemen the past few seasons (and perhaps the best this year), Grossman's struggles with the puck likely meant he would not be re-signed as an unrestricted free agent this summer.
From http://www.defendingbigd.com/

I think if the team plays him as a 6, maybe 5 guy at best, we will be happy with him.

Holy overpayment Batman! Is it as ridiculous as I originally thought when I just read the trade details?? That seems like a really bad fantasy hockey trade that should've been vetoed immediately.

Hmm this is interesting

@DarrenDreger
Kubina watch continues. Hearing offers from both Det and Philly have been made.

Have we tried Timonen-Meszaros as a pairing? I kind of want to see if Coburn-Grossman could work as a shutdown pairing. Carle-Bourdon could be given some more sheltered minutes than they are right now, which would be a good thing. I'm not so sure if Timonen and Meszaros would work together though.

Just makes one think.
I still think we would have to replace Carle somehow if we trade him, but if we could add, say Kubina or Oduya without giving up too much, and then get a 1st rounder and some change for Carle... I could live with that I think.

In Winnipeg I have seen quite a bit of Oduya. He has about the same rep as Carle as a turnover machine. We call him "Odon'tya". I would not recommend him as a replacement if Carle is dealt.

I'm really liking the how the Flyers defense being retooled on the fly. If they are able to land another defenseman, then I have to think that Carle is as good as gone. And contrary to what people think, Carle is an EXTREMELY valuable asset that can be had for a good bounty.

I don't think that Oduya is better, or even as good as Carle. What I meant was that I could live with two trades that would work out as, say Carle+2nd for Oduya+1st. Our d would be a bit worse for this year, but not all that much worse, while that 1st could become useful at the draft if we want to trade up.

I said it in another thread, I can see him going for a 3rd near draft-day or beginning of free agency. I think he is worth more now (atleast a 1st) but I HIGHLY doubt the Flyers trade him. Honestly, I bet it isnt even in Homer's mind.

I wouldn't worry too much about his stats. Grossman has been playing for a lousy team, with forwards who don't exactly make it easy to pass to.

To the person who said he''s more of a watch and block you type of defenseman. You hit it right on the head. If he wants to blow your ass up though, nobody in the league can stop him. He's a big ****ing SOB. I've actually been on the ice with him quite a few times and he's a pretty intimidating force.

He's pretty much a bad ass, and he has pretty damn quick feet for his size.

Hatcher was a mean SOB, Grossman doesn't have anything like that mean streak to him.

Don't count on it. He blocks shots, but the story is he doesn't play physical. I'm not drinking the kool aid yet

~100 hits in ~55 games.

Doesn't hit? Not to mention youtube is full of highliht reel hits from him. He may not be consistent with his hitting, but he definitely hits

He plays Physical in the sense that he drives player to the boards and takes the body almost everytime. When people say he's not very physical they really mean he doesn't hit very often and doesn't really have a mean streak.

Agreed. It just takes 2-3 interested GMs who don't have access to television or the Internet, and Carle's value could balloon.
