Lets see how he continues to progress next year, but I would love to lock him up long term. If he scores 30 a year, than you're looking at 4 or 5 million a year over 5 years. Probably similar to the Pleks deal..maybe a little less as he doesn't play in all situations like Pleks..

I say if he ends up with 65-70pts by the end of this season, lock him up for 5 years at $4.5M (if you can). His #s speak for themselves, last year before he was knocked out, he was on pace for 55pt season, and this year he's on pace for 66pts.

I know that Philly got rid of a lot of salary last year (so they should have the cash available), but signing Giroux to 3 year deal, will cost them dearly in the future.

Let's not do the same thing as them.

no need to sign him this year, since he's signed next year and RFA afterwards.

if he puts up good numbers next year too then I'd go for a 5 year deal at 4 per.

I don't even think you can sign him if you even wanted to right now, think it's gotta go past a certain date during the contract

Wait until the latter half of next year to determine what to sign him for, but, as of now, I can definitely see a potential 30+ consistent goal scorer, which would put him at around 5M+ (give or take).

Guy doesn't have a single 30-goal season or 50-point season yet in the NHL, and is in his first full season and people want to throw 5M$ per on a long term at him?

Oi

Well said - what's the rush?

1 season does not a career make

Tell me what, except of injury because we all know players can get injured, is going to stop him from reaching either mark this season.

The point is that it's going to be a first for him.

It will depend on the term...if we wanted to extend him for a couple more years 4-4.5/year(2 years 8-9 mil) would probably work. If we want to try and sign him for 4-5 years it would probably cost a bit more 4.5-5 mil.

I think this is something that should be looked at this coming summer.

I think its July 1st actually.

The January 1st date is only for players who signed a 1-year deal in July.

Ah, there you are then. I remember that date mostly because of the 're-sign pleks ASAP' threads, but you're probably right.

if he can show next season that he can play like this then we give him a medium term worth 3-3.5 per year. If he still continues to improve like he has throughout that term, then we start talking long term in the 5-6 range.

Yeah he'll get something similar to Bobby Ryan.

Higgins had 27-goal seasons and 50+ point seasons as well.

Not saying they are the same, not at all. Patches is my favourite player.

He was dynamite after his call up last season, he's been dynamite this year aside from his slump after the suspension. If he plays this good the rest of the year and up until the day we can officially re-sign him (Jan next year) then I say he's worth a 5-6 year contract at 5-5.5M. He might still be an RFA, but don't be fooled if his level of play continues I highly doubt his agent will allow him to walk away with anything less than what I mentioned above.
