yeah i think they should buyout Godard. He isnt going to be of any use whatsoever and who knows they may end up needing the flexibility of an open contract slot. Better safe than sorry, imo.
Chiasson may (and should) stay another year at BU. Reilly Smith will probably also stay at school.
Austin Smith will be in the AHL.
I'd assume Theriau will also be in the AHL.
Oleksiak may also be in the AHL.
Klingberg and Nemeth should be in the AHL (or NHL if Nemeth proves worthy, might have to fight Oleksiak for it)
Godard could probably fetch a 7th in a trade... or just waive him, I'm sure Pittsburgh would love him back for a year...

I seriously doubt Dallas wants Chaisson to stay after everything that's happened at BU this season. As for Reilly Smith, I'm not sure but again I have to believe they'd rather have these guys playing for them than playing for their college clubs. At this point in time the AHL is a step up and a challenge they may believe he's ready for. I don't think they'll push hard but I imagine they'll encourage him to sign.
Well, he is only a junior this year. If he's intent on graduating, he should stay, if not, to the AHL/NHL with him too. I don't see Joe pushing to have guys leave college early no matter the circumstances.

Pretty sure Reilly Smith will be in the AHL. Austin of course, Nemeth definitely will be, Klingberg almost assuredly will stay in Europe. Not sure on Chiasson.

I've revised my opinion on Theriau. If he an his agent are smart, they don't sign with Dallas. His chances on this team aren't very good. Smart move is to go back in the draft, probably not get selected, and then sign as a FA.
This puts Dallas at 45 contracts (needing to sign 5 for the NHL).
Oh yeah ... and instead of making assumptions about trades .... the one assumption I made was no trade would make the team worse. So ... if a guy like Ott, Ribs, or Robidas is traded, I assumed at least one player coming back in the deal would replace them next year.
It would also be nice to see Sceviour possibly take a 4th line spot. Then Dallas could retain one of Wathier or Sawada for Texas. With Lukowich vs. Fortunus, I didn't want to just assume at 35 years old Brad was up for another year. If he's not, I could see them hanging on to Fortunus so they aren't too young on D.
This little exercise to figure out contract numbers also made me realize they really need to shake something up with a trade or 3 or 5. If they don't make any trades, I could totally see this team scoffing at some of the lesser Top 6 forwards in free agency contract demands (as they probably should) .... but we'd end up with the exact same uninspired Top 6 as this year (possibly with even Ott in the mix).
I'm fine, even happy, with Ott as soldering along in the Bottom 6, but they need some changes in the Top 6.

Bring on Carters 10 year contract bring it the **** on
In his postgame interview the other night Nieuwendyk more than implied that college players (plural) would be in Austin next year. He also said that Nemeth would probably be there as well. I'm expecting all of Nemeth, R. Smith, A. Smith, and Chiasson to be baby Stars next season. To be honest, I don't think Nemeth spends more than one full season there either. The Texas Stars could be a very interesting team to watch as the roster is turned over and infused with more Stars prospects.
We definitely need a new top 6 forward for next season, whether it comes from within or outside. Looking at available free agents seems to be about 7-10 who could fill that role. Parise and Semin would be the most expensive targets, and the rest are old/oft-injured/fringe second liners.
Could we see Glennie take that role? Texas is going to get a lot of new players, and I can't imagine that none from this year will make the team in 2013.
He's like the anti-Neal. Non-existent for the first half, shows up strong in the second. And he seems to have an insane playmaking ability opposed to Neal's shot.
