Help is on the way.

On Saturday evening, after their 6-4 loss to the Penguins (see story), the Flyers traded for defenseman Pavel Kubina from the Tampa Bay Lightning for a second-round and a fifth-round draft pick.

Kubina is a puck moving defenseman who fits the genre the Flyers have moved to in recent years, with Europeans who can get out of their own end quickly while using their skating ability to avoid trouble.

Because he is now the 51st contract, the Flyers will have to make a move to lose a player in their system. The deal is pending league approval.

Quote:
The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded defenceman Pavel Kubina to the Philadelphia Flyers for second and fourth-round draft picks.

This deal is still pending league approval.

The second rounder is a conditional pick that the Flyers acquired from the Florida Panthers in the Kris Versteeg deal.

The Panthers have the right to make this either a 2012 or 2013 pick prior to the beginning of the 2nd-round of this year's draft.

A steady two-way presence on the back-end, Kubina has played with the Lightning (twice), Toronto Maple Leafs and Atlanta Thrashers throughout his career.

LeBrun says it's picks only, but it can't be, right?

Hearing for 2 draft picks "@DarrenDreger: Pending league approval, Pavel Kubina has been traded to Philadelphia."

It must be a first then.

Do players on LTIR count towards the contract max?

Say what you will about Homer, but he gets things done consistently.

If only we had a goalie...

Backlund was only loaned so supposedly his contract still counts (what people said in the Grossman thread)

We are at 50 contracts. They have to take a player. Depending on who, that may either kick the price up, or knock it down.

I love these stop gaps. Why cant we just accept we suck this year and focus on our bright future. How are we in win now mode if we trade richards and carter. WTF this team needs to stick with someones blueprint instead of all these reactionary moves. I have no doubt this trade is going to suck.
