According to hockeyfights.com, Dorsett has won 8 of 32 fights since the start of last year, but I've never seen any of 'em. It seems the guy is always getting pounded.
Pretty hard to instigate a fight with a guy twice your size and look like an idiot (rather than a guy with a heart the size of John Scott), but Dorsett sure accomplished that.
dorsett is 20x the hockey player scott is. scott isnt a great fighter and by far nowhere near the top heavyweight in the league.
John Scott is a very good fighter. Not sure where you get the idea he isn't. I'd certainly put him up against any heavy in the league and expect him to do more than hold his own.
As for this fight it's clear Scott didn't want to go with him, but he obliged after a punch to the jaw.
Other heavywieghts just don't want to go with Scott after the Westgarth fight last year.
In the summer I went to the Oilers prospect camp and I sat in front of Oilers color man/former NHL enforcer Louis Debrusk...and basically eavesdropped(not my finest moment) on his conversation with the other media guys. He was talking about enforcers and the guys that choose not to fight guys like MacIntyre are only hurting their own careers because they're making themselves irrelevant. The guy he used as an example of being a huge spot picker was Westgarth. Apparently that's his reputation around the league amongst other heavyweights. It's believable too. His fight card isn't very impressive for a guy his size.
So I'm not saying this to bash Scott...but if Westgarth was willing to fight him twice, I doubt many heavyweights are afraid of him. Dorsett wasn't even willing to fight Hordichuk in a game where the Blue Jackets were down and in need of a momentum shift a couple months ago.
Ryan Reaves who's no super heavyweight handled him just fine today.
Not sure I'd say handled him fine. Took a couple of shots off the head and then they tumbled to the ice. This is what passes for doing well against Scott, not getting murdered. That is why a lot of people think he's the top heavy in the game today.
Plus I would add he can only fight guys that will go with him. He's called out Thorton and Reaves in the media and they won't square up with him. Rupp had a perfect opportunity to go with him in a 4-0 game after Scott laid a cheap hit on one of his teammates. People don't want to fight him and those that do often end up getting the crapped beat out of them.
