Someone has to go though. We are at 51 contracts now.

Getting a good defense in front of the goalies may help. Cuts down on mistakes by guys like Carle. The rookies will be back with the Phantoms. Now that Carle has a solid big man back there, Kubina will be there to fix his mistakes.

Dont need to move anyone this year. Cap will be .. what 1/4 of Kubina's 3.8 mil? Less than 1 mil increase in cap.

Over the summer they will certainly dump someone like Carle if they want to fit in Kubina for next yr. Which they may not want to do considering he'll be 35.

Well, these are exactly the kind of moves a lot of others and myself were calling for. Perhaps a 4th line forward would be nice as well. Let's hope it comes together.

Yeah look at the size of Mesz, Kubina and Grossman. Towers of powers, and all like to hit as well.

That's 4 wasted draft picks by Homer, I'm sure that # will be 5 or 6 by the trade dead line.

The last 5th round pick of the Flyers that played in the NHL? Jesse Boulerice, picked in '96.

According to LeBrun the second pick is a 4th rounder - not a 5th:

Jon Kalinski announced as a scratch. That would be highly unusual if he isn't injured. Broadcast called it "late & surprising."

Maybe the contract going out?

Two 2nd round picks and an early 3rd ... All for two UFAs that won't help this team get to the 3rd round

As per Tim McManus, Adirondack Phantoms writer - Jon Kalinski surprised late scratch, not injured as he knows. Maybe that contract that has to be cleared?

He's the kid who ended up with compartment syndrome couple years ago, and had to have emergency surgery to save his leg.

EDIT: Ah, beaten to it!

He's the last of the great locker room disaster up in Adirondack still with the organization.

Makes sense. I like Kalinski, but he doesn't have a future in Philadelphia.

Yeah...I'm not sure about this deal. Only makes sense to me if a defenseman (preferably Carle) is moved by the deadline.

4 picks, none of which will likely ever make the NHL.

Ansar Khan of MLive.com reported the Red Wings have made an offer to the Lightning for the pending UFA defenseman – even before Kubina has submitted his list to Yzerman about teams he'd be willing to move to

"Kubina is big and strong (6-foot-4, 258) and has a booming shot from the point," Khan writes.

I love this move and was hoping that this would be instead of Grossman, but both? Awesome.
