Just had an absolutely fascinating discussion about flyers plans here. Kubina is not the end game. As of now at least. More like 1 of 3

I'm almost 100% sure part 2 is Nash....I can't fathom what part 3 is...Nabokov?

To be honest, I thought Kubina would have wanted to go to DET or NYR instead of here.

Thankfully he submitted that list of approved teams before today's game.

We did well cuz when the Wings want a Dman he is usually pretty good. ALSO we didnt give up much, consider the followign statement:

http://*******************/articles/...d-pavel-kubina

The return for Kubina could be massive because defensemen are so coveted during this time of the year, and there aren't many of these guys available right now.

Grossman and Kubina give the Flyers some great D additions and depth at the position going into the post season without giving up anything significant.

Ansar Khan of MLive.com reported the Red Wings have made an offer to the Lightning for the pending UFA defenseman – even before Kubina has submitted his list to Yzerman about teams he'd be willing to move to

"Kubina is big and strong (6-foot-4, 258) and has a booming shot from the point," Khan writes.

The arrogance!

They were hot for him. I do not have a clue what their offer was though.

Kubina and Jagr to DET for Datsyuk

Datsyuk, Nash, and Giroux wreak havoc throughout the NHL for the next 8 years

We'll have a pretty damn big defense, Kubina, Grossman, Meszaros and Coburn.

Timonen-Coburn
Kubina-Meszaros
Grossman-Carle

something like that?

A 4th line center/pk specialist would be next on my wish list if Homer wants to do some more dealings.

Edit: Also, if we do trade Carle for a 1st rounder after this... That would be fine with me.

Looking at Kubina's advanced numbers...they're pretty bad.

His Corsi is 2nd worst on the team (-8.74), he takes the most penalties/60 (1.2), has a higher GAON/60 than GFON/60 (3.13 to 2.99), and the Lighting scored more when he was off the ice (GF Off/60 is 2.71, GA Off/60 is 2.60)

Hold on. I need to grab another beer before I begin to try to digest any of that.

I'm not too knowledgable in advanced statistics, but I have to think that there is a bit of a difference in the role that Kubina was asked to play in TB and what we expect his role to be here... plus, who was he paired with? (Legitimately don't know).

This is reminding me of when we rebuilt our defense in the weeks leading up to the deadline in 2004
