Not sure about all these numbers, but from what I remember of his days in Toronto - he was bad. Big guy, big shot - but some brutal plays in his own end.

Anyone actually watch much of him this year?

We could acquire a thousand Lidstroms and I wouldn't care. We won't be a scary team to play until we get at least satisfactory goaltending and stop giving up critical points/losses to divisional opponents.

I'm not too knowledgable in advanced statistics, but I have to think that there is a bit of a difference in the role that Kubina was asked to play in TB and what we expect his role to be here... plus, who was he paired with? (Legitimately don't know).
He had the second most TOI out of TB's defensemen (823.78, behind Eric Brewer). His top 5 linemates, in order:

Eric Brewer, Brett Clark, Martin St. Louis, Steven Stamkos, Vincent Lecavalier.

Yes, his role here will be different, but I really don't get the point of adding him unless another defenseman is out.

Maybe it had something to do with the Czech presence. Mez, Jagr, Voracek.

The Flyers finally got Kubina, but I think it's a few years too late. With that being said, I think he's the perfect second pairing defenseman here and he should work out well with whoever he's paired with.

I think the acquisition of Grossman and now Kubina means that Laviolette and McCarthy will begin plans on tightening up the D. Hopefully a tighter D means the goaltenders can finally get their games on track.

One of those is Noebels' and his contract slides for this year. Apparently Kalinski was a late scratch for the Phantoms, so he might be included in this trade.

Or they terminated Backlund's contract, but forgot to tell anyone... I think he would have had to go on the waiver wire one more time for that to happen though.

And the fact that Svoboda represents Jagr, Voracek, and Kubina.

I know that he sucked really bad in the beginning of the year. I think his ice time dropped pretty significantly for a while as well. From what I can gather he's picked up his play though. I haven't seen that much of the Lightnings this year though, so take it with a grain of salt.

He is at the tail end of his career, however, and he's not the fastest guy in the league. Hopefully he won't be another Modry for us.

So we've got Kubina to Philly for 2012 2nd (from FLA) and 2013 4th as the deal... but word on Philly is another deal pending.

I wish Kubina was the player we pursued from the get go. Grossman seems like a waste now. GMaN looked good but he got beat to the outside by anyone with any bit of speed, same thing with kubina. We already have kimmo who is sloe as hell and MAB who gets beat to the outside alot. If we trade carle we will only have two D men who can skate with some speed.
