You can say that about any young player traded.... especially if your getting a player back who has the same potential. You could also get someone who reached it already.

Do you want an older forward capable of 65-70 points a season making 7.6m/year...

or

Do you want a younger forward capable of 55-65 points a season making 4.25m/year... (assuming JVR never gets significantly better)

I think it'd be foolish to believe he's already reached his potential.

You should change that to, older forward who DOES hit 65-70 points a season vs. a younger forward who hasnt hit more than 40 points but maybe will get 55-65.

That being said I wasnt even talking about Nash. For of young defenders out there like Schenn, etc.

I guess almost as foolish that he would become LeClair. Not saying he wont get better, but personally think he wont be as good as some here think he will be. That and next season he would be a 40 point, 4.3 mil player.

Im not a huge rick nash fan and I would rather keep JVR if it came down to it but to say nash is only capable of 65-70 points is kind of underselling him.

I know he has only gone over 70 once (79 points) but he is and has been doing it with nobodies, I mean there probably is not a player that does more with less.

Put him with a center like giroux and there is no reason he couldnt score 40-45 goals.

I'd rather find out he's a career 40 point forward as a Flyer, than find out he's a 90 pt forward with the Leafs, Kings, or Jackets...

I understand what you are saying, and not arguing your point.

Just funny that Rick Nash is considered an "older" player. He's 27!

I'm sure you know I meant "older than JVR."

Basically Rick Nash is what Rick Nash is.

JVR at best is Rick Nash though. I'm just hoping he becomes Rick Nash without the inflated contract.

I'd say some health and consistency puts JVR close if not right in the same region. (This of course is based on my opinion that Rick Nash doesn't have a 80-90 point ceiling that others believe him to possess.)

Here comes Kubina

Per Darren Dreger

So we gave up draft picks... didn't we have to give up a player as well to do the trade?

Yeaaah... no, that's not happening. You're off by about 2.5 million.

Well would Pronger be off the books?

I meant that you won't be able to sign Suter for 4.2 million. That's essentially what Coburn is making. Think 6+ million for Suter on the open market.

As for Pronger, well, if he comes back to play next season then we have our #1 d-man back. If he is still suffering from PCS then we LTIR him and go after a guy like Suter, or other lesser replacements. Perhaps they re-sign Grossman and Kubina to short term deals, and let go Carle, and then go after another cheaper option for a puck mover.

I wouldn't be too sure about that... maybe this is only the beginning of Homer's moves? Maybe Carle gets moved in a package for another d-man? Who knows. If Homer has shown me one thing these past several years, it's that he quite often pulls off trades that no one could have expected.

Looks like Schenn and Johnson are pretty much out of the picture, unless something NUTS happens.

Where's the dude who posted that he overheard Snider calling Homer at a game last week demanding a defenseman or two and posted a pic of Eds phone??

Props to him, he was spot on.

Schenn is a player you'd like to have on the team to develop for the next 3 to 4 years. He doesn't do very much for you in the 2012 playoffs, so getting him at the deadline was not a priority.

That was me

Actually, it was my friend who overheard it, but I brought it here to HF.

Hahaha, first thing I thought of when I saw the trade scroll across the TV screen was "well...props to DU."

Luke Schenn would do about as much for you in the 2012 playoffs as Grossman or Kubina, if not more.

He wasn't a priority because of the asking price.
