Word I'm hearing is that Jon Kalinski did not leave with Phantoms tonight. He's off to Norfolk (AHL) which would be that contract.

Sounds like the Lightning are getting Jon Kalinski in the trade as well. He was held out of the Phantoms game tonight and wasn't injured and wouldn't be a healthy scratch. On the AHL level, it's a big deal.

He has 5 points in 22 NHL games. And frankly, I'd like to see him get another shot in the NHL.

Officially confirmed by Lightning.

2nd in 12 or 13, 4th in 13 and Kalinski.

Was kind of hoping Kubi would go out West but meh.

Flyers are a complete mess though. Bryzgalov is blowing up in their face so they're having to bulk up the defense as much as possible to try and cover it up. They won't go far.

Good job SFY, always glad to get something in return for pending UFA's. With the plethora of 2nd's, I hope we trade up or send one in a package for Cory Schneider in the off-season!

One of the bigger reasons why I'm against the Flyers going after rentals, but Paul Holmgren is under marching orders.

Yzerman said Kubina never submitted a list of teams, but agreed to waive his no-trade for Philadelphia #tblightning

The hang up on the deal being completed was essentially paperwork, getting Kubina to sign his agreement to the deal and submit to league/PA

Why it was handled pretty professionally IMO.

Besides, I can never feel bad for someone playing a sport and making millions of dollars a year.

I liked Kalinski. Always hoped he would get another crack at our 4th line. He could probably step right in for you guys and help kill penalties, if you need it.

In all I'd say it was good return for you guys, on par with the Gill/Grossman deals.

SFY did good. Kuby wasn't going to be resigned so getting a couple picks and who knows what in Kalinski was great. We'll know better when he gets on a good team like Norfolk. Oberg and Kostka are doing way better than they did in San Antonio.

I sort of get why there was a hold up if the list hadn't been made yet.

Imagine if the team pulls Kubina off the ice, tells him it's because a trade is coming, and they now want him now to submit his list of 5 teams.

The fear would be that Kuby, with best intentions, puts down 5 teams, and none of them are interested, or making any sort of viable offer. The flip side is that if the player knows the teams interested in his services, he'll pick the one he wants to go to, assets coming back be damned, and fill the rest of the list with teams that aren't interested.

They couldn't go back, having literally pulled him off the ice during practice, and it kind of defeats the purpose of a limited NTC if SFY has to say 'besides them'.

I can't agree. Showed some moments of skill, but overall major letdown. I actually thought that he did have potential, but he got beat out and forgotten very quickly. Look at all the rookies who have come in and made him look forgettable.

I'm happy with that return for Kubina..I wouldn't have expected that kind of return a few months ago.

I like this deal a lot. Getting a 2nd(either 2012 or 2013, either way doesn't matter), a 4th and a depth forward is pretty good value for an aging veteran d-man. And we won again tonight!! Only 6 pts(3 wins) behind Toronto for 8th place, with a game in hand. Keep on pluggin' away boys.

oh yeah and..I've always wondered...why do you guys call Yzerman "SFY" ???

Well they made it to the SCF in 2009/10 with way worse goaltending so you never know.

That was when Pronger was playing 30 minutes a game and they KNEW the goaltending was bad. My point is, Bryzgalov was supposed to be the "fix to all problems" but he's been just as mediocre as Leighton or Boucher and now they're trying to bulk up the D to try and cover up for their how many millions they gave him goalie.

The acronym was coined almost immediately after the Gagne trade.

"Steve (Yzerman) brought me to the office a couple of days ago and asked me for a list of five teams," Kubina said. "He said, 'We would like to move you,' and after that he sent me home."

Kubina never supplied the list, but the trade came about quickly anyway.

"I was just sitting home, waiting for what was going to happen. I could have come up with a list of five teams but I didn't do it," Kubina said. "I could have waited another seven days to do that, but when I spoke to Steve (Yzerman) about Philly, I thought it was the right thing to do.

"He told me there was a great offer coming from Philadelphia and after that I thought about it: it's a great team, a mix of young players and stars and obviously players like [Flyers forward Jaromir] Jagr, and it's a very good team. I thought about it and talked to my family. I love playing hockey and it's another chance for me to go and play for a great team and a Stanley Cup contender and be in the playoffs again."
Quote:
"I think the Lightning are getting a lot for me," Kubina said. "I'm 34 years old and they got a second and a fourth round pick, so that's a lot for me."

...

"It's been very difficult, not only for me but for my family," Kubina said. "I know it's a business and this is part of the business and I just have to move on."
Quote:
"To be honest, when I signed to come back here (in 2010) I had better offers from other teams; more years and for more money, and I took this deal because this team belongs to my heart and I spent so many great times here. I was drafted by Phil Esposito (seventh round in 1996), then we struggled so much for a few years -- I had a chance to grow up in the NHL and play here for around 700 games. I grew up as a player and then we won the Stanley Cup and I made so many good friends here, so many friends for life. I met so many good people, it's hard to leave and like I said, this team will always belong to my heart.

"I always thought this team, even when we were out of the playoffs by eight or ten points, I still hoped that we would make the playoffs. This is a great group of guys and we proved it last year; this year was pretty much the same team. We struggled this year, but this team is still fighting for a playoff spot and now they are only six points out and they have a great shot at it, so I was a little disappointed that Steve lost the patience and the hope for us."

Kubina, who will finish this season as an unrestricted free agent, ruled out a return to Tampa Bay in the future.

"I think it happens once," Kubina said, "and to be honest, I don't think so."
