I put this in the other thread, but will post it here too.

I think part (not all) of the reason our forwards are really struggling right now is due to them covering their tails so much due to a weak arse blueline. And when I say weak, I mean not only at defending our turf but also when it comes time to chip in offensively.

Don't get me wrong, our forwards are dingleberries for trying to be too pretty every game. But so many guys are playing OUTSIDE of their usual roles this year due to injuries and a deadbeat blueline that they're numbers are deflating.

Then Fletcher needs to go. You don't build around a 60-70 point center.

Point production is not the only key to a great player or a team.

In any case, I would argue that Fletcher is building around the 1-2 centering tandem of Koivu and Granlund, and not just Koivu.

It makes as little sense as building around Patrice Bergeron or Ryan Kesler or Jordan Staal.

You really can't build around 1-2 players. You need several quality guys and then complement them. What worries me is his inability to complement the one guy who's obviously ahead of the pack.

you don't necessarily build around the guy who gets the most points, either. It was the work ethic and the intensity I think he wanted to mold the team around more than the point production.
I don't even know why I'm arguing this point because in the height of Koivu worship I wanted Nolan to captain the team and only this year have accepted Mikko. It's part of the plan. We're picking up young players now that have high level leadership experience so the future isn't set in stone. Fletcher wants to build a team that has all of Mikko's positive characteristics much as the Blues as a team reflect Backes'.

Well I'm glad I missed the game. Saw the peters hit, read through the GDT, watched the goals against, and came to a conclusion.

The team is being told to tank. Right?

This team can't really be this bad, can it?

I also saw the Peters hit and I think a suspension will be incoming, but I have no sympathy left for any other fans in the NHL because of the way the league handled the injuries to Wild players earlier this year.

It will be both. Granlund will end up on the top line, while Koivu goes to the 2nd line. That's something that we need more of....two lines that pose threats. Right now, shut down the line that's hot, and we're done.

We can only hope Granlund doesn't bust.

Minnesota has struggled to find a center since Lemaire was standing behind the bench. Remember Demitra being forced into the center position.

The biggest problem with Koivu is his durability.

True, he's had a bad year with injuries. But it's not a reason to move him. He's not pulling a Butch, Lats, or a Gabby. He's not out of shape.

Not to bring Cullen up again, but I was looking at the numbers. These aren't up to date from the last few games, but he's played many more games than Koivu....yet with the exception of having maybe 1 more goal, he is below in all other regards. And it's pretty amazing how Koivu and Heatley are so high above the rest in +/-. Yeah, they're on the powerplay a lot, but Cullen was a -3 as of February 8th. Where the #@$! did he go?!

Your yesterday opponent is building around Backes who is on 60 points pace currently. So it's not only about the points which matter.
