Dump move scratching Ellis in favor if whomever. He's one of the few (Ok, two) D-men who can run the PP and contribute offensively.

Boullion does nothing special.

Only logical reason I can think of is protecting Ellis for a trade. But that seems pretty unlikely to me.

That's something else I didnt think of. They may think they can take this one without Ellis.

Ellis has had 64.6% of his zone starts in the offensive zone & 50.3% has ended up staying on that side of the ice ...

I have no words to describe how ridiculous it is to scratch Ellis. Didnt we bring in Gill to be the perfect D partner for him? I'm confused.

All I can think of is:
1. They're protecting him for a trade. (10% chance)
2. They are "showcasing" Hillen/Boullion for a trade (30% chance)
3. Trotz has gone more off his rocker than usual (60% chance)

SLake makes a good point. The biggest reason for needing Gill was so we can begin rolling three pairings with closer-to-equal minutes instead of loading up the big minutes on Weber and Suter so that the third pairing can be protected. Ellis has looked good in his very protected minutes, but they have still been protected minutes.

Gill in for Predators against stars

http://blogs.tennessean.com/predator...against-stars/

Don't know how I feel about this. I really like Ellis and he's scored some for the Preds. I was hoping he would be paired w/ Gill. I rather have Hillen or Bouillon scratched instead. Guess I will have to see how it turns out first before I judge.

Boullion does nothing except be old, and that's the most important thing to Trotz.

PS I usually have a ridiculously good memory when it comes to the Preds history, but.....Bouillon played four games with us in 02-03?? Why do I not remember this? Does anyone else?

Well I hope he would be in. We didn't make the move so he could watch from the suite. I don't have a problem with sitting Ellis. I say send him to Milwaukee until we have a need for him, whether it be injury or getting the playoff roster set.

Picked up off waivers from Montreal. Then lost again.

Boullion and Klein is a mistake, neither can break the puck out.

I'd much rather Ellis with Gill.

Lol, Calm down guys! It's the first game with Gill in the lineup..let's not act like these pairings are set in stone. It is Trotz afterall.

Ellis can be a liability in the d zone, but definitely makes up for it in the O zone. I'm sure they want to limit his playing time as he develops.

Not as much of a liability as Klein, Bulls, Hillen. Move simply does not make sense.

Yup. Should be Klein/Josi, Ellis/Gill.

Gill will play way more than he should with Josi, and Klein/Bouillon can't handle the puck. We'll give up at least four goals.

Someone posted this on another fan site I go to. So maybe there is some plan/strategy to Trotz's madness.

Quote:
Hillen is a permascratch for now unless he gets traded or waived The preds have 8 defenseman on the roster at the moment but that will change. McGratten will probably stay on IR till the deadline but once he comes back they have to make a decision on whether to send Ellis down or Hillen. Poile is probably hoping to package Hillen in a deal for a forward or try to get something for him rather than waive him. The only other option is to send Ellis down. It will depend on what happens with Gill and who he pairs up well with. Good news is that Hornqvist is expected back on Tuesday.

Maybe he is testing to see what the best pairing w/ Gill will be or to showcase the other players for a trade deal. Guess we will have to wait and see. All I know is I like Ellis and want him to stay! So hopefully that is the ultimate plan once everything is all said and done. So unless we can just get a better top/elite scorer out of trading Ellis vs the other D-man, I rather have Ellis in the lineup.
