Vancouver + Minnesota Minor Tweak

I know inter-division trades are not frequent, but this is fairly minor.
We are essentially improving our #7-8 defensemen by swapping with Minnesota and giving us some major insurance in the event of injuries.

Minnesota
Yann Sauve (2008, #41)
Andrew Alberts (Minnesota native, 1 year remaining 1.2 mil)
Alex Sulzer (pending UFA)
*Conditional Picks based on players re-signing

Vancouver
Greg Zanon (BC Boy)
Clayton Stoner (BC Boy, no jokes)
(Both pending UFA's)

Greg Zanon and Clayton Stoner are fairly low on Minnesotas depth chart, and are not guaranteed to re-sign.
Both are BC boys, and MG could probably re-sign them easily in the offseason if he desires.

Minnesota does this because...
- Home Town Minnesota boy in Alberts
- It guarantees them a bottom pairing d-man going into next season
- Alberts is familiar with NW Division so transition won't be difficult
- They get warm bodies to round out their roster for the remainder of the year

Hamhuis Bieksa
Edler Salo
Ballard Tanev
Zanon/Stoner/Rome

Minnesota says no they would be looking for more than this and we wouldn't want Alberts or at least we want more than this.

I swear why does everyone think we want players just because there hometown boys It get's so annoying. I mean if they're good players then sure but everyone is like oh will give you such and such player that's a piece of crap just because there from Minnesota and it really annoys me that people do this. So please people just quit trying to offer us you're castoffs just because they are from MN.

I think something simpler like Alberts + 2nd would be necessary. We would need to at least send them one draft pick without conditions. Alberts on his own doesn't provide much motivation to make a deal.

I just pointed out hes a Minny native the same way I pointed out the other 2 were from BC. The reason I sent Alberts over is he gives Minnesota a reliable d-man going into next year, instead of them possibly losing Zanon/Stoner outright to free agency.

I'd probably do

Alberts

Maybe Sulzer don't know much about him as he's been around since 2003 and doesn't seem like he's been able to really make it in the NHL. So maybe someone like Yann Suave or something

2nd maybe you guy's add a 5th as well

Min

Stoner

Zanon

7th

The problem is that there are plenty of guys as good as Alberts available via free agency. They would rather have the picks or prospects. As the other guy said, there is no motivation to trade for Alberts.

How about Zanon and Stoner for Sulzer, 2nd, 5th? Sulzer is the "warm body" for the rest of the year, but Minnesota aren't on the hook for another contract next year.

If I'm Minnesota, (I am) I'm looking for a way to stock up on picks and prospects.

I don't think they're very interested in minor player swaps - especially when they benefit a division rival.

Alberts also moves some cap for us to bring in Zanon/Stoner.
What about a B-level d-prospect like Yann Sauve being included

Alberts + Sulzer + Sauve (2008, #41 overall)
for
Zanon + Stoner

I'd make that deal. Zanon is a beast at shot-blocking.

Why would we want Sulzer, or for that matter, Alberts. I'd rather trade Zanon for a pick a keep Stoner.

I swear if I see one more trade proposal with a player coming to us with the reasoning of "Minnesota native"...

Seriously why do we care if he's from here?

And the rest of the reasons you think we'd do this are trivial at best. Guaranteed bottom pairing d-man? I guarantee you I could throw a quarter at the Houston depth chart and find a player who can fill those minutes. Alberts familiar with the NW? I'm familiar with the NW division, that doesn't mean I can play defense in it either.

Well instead of Alberts how about Cory Schnieder? He's a Massachusetts native. Or Ryan Kesler? He's a Michigan native. All you M State people look alike anyway.

Your hometown boy Clayton Stoner is actually quite a decent player. I think he is guaranteed a re-sign considering his low contract

No MNs please, for the most part few are actually any good in the NHL. A top-six player, either D or F, can be from Lima, Peru or Tripoli, Lebanon for all I care, just as long as he is good!

I said to one of the other posters I was just pointing it out the same way I pointed out Zanon/Stoner are from BC.

You're missing the point. Minnesota don't want Alberts. They want prospects and picks, and would probably take Sulzer back for cap reasons since he's UFA - but not Alberts.

Zanon for a pick OR a propsect makes the best sense.

I can't see any reason for the Canucks to trade anything for either Zanon or Stoner, they're both UFA's, Xanon would be a disaster in a system designed on speed and puck movement - Stoner's OK but he isn't an upgrade from Rome who knows our system and he certainly isn't better then Tanev. If Vancouver wants either one they are better off waiting till the off-season and trying to sign them without loosing any assets - I see Stoner is on the IR too, I don't know when he's scheduled to return but that doesn't help us either.
