Well he does have that no-trade clause, a full one I think ; so there's that.

More importantly, he's agreat player and good veteran ; we need some of those going forward to insulate our younger guys and be competitive quickly.

Unless gross overpayment, this is a definite no.

Cole for Malkin ? Sure

Seriously this kind of question is funny because of the "if the return is good" part.

In other words the question is "Would you do this action if there is a positive consequence to it ?" Hard to answer no.

Anyway we all love Cole and he's here to stay as long as he plays like the warrior he is right now.

If the price is right, yes. And I'm talking about good picks, players and possibly a decent prospect as possible returns. No BS we're talking about here.

Cole is just the total package. Guy scores, hits, good on the PK, plays his heart out every shift and is a good leader. No way this organization gives up on their best free agent signing in recent memory for a bag of chips.

Only blind biased fans would say no to a great deal.

Sooner trade him than Price, Subban or Pac.

This is a business, not a popularity contest.

Cole was sweating for our team and you guys are thinking about trading him? He was hurt but he still played with a lot of pain for us tonight. Managing assets is one thing but there is also the human aspect. Absolutely, we should never think about trading him at the deadline.

I'd trade Price for malkin. I mean, no one's truly 'untouchable' but there's guys a prefer to keep and build a young core like chicago with. If Cole can get us a piece, a legit piece, for the future. a JVR or wtv, then yah, i'd trade him.

moving him while his value is high would be a fantastic move to be honest

he might get injured and will surely slow down even if healthy , a good GM would at least try to see what he could bring in return for a guy like Cole.

Cole being traded for something good would be a perfect example of a good GM thinking couple of moves ahead.

No, hes played well this year with dd and max pac. He makes that line and the 2 kids needs him right now. Give them another year together and then max and dd can fly on there own after that.
Maybe next year at the trade deadline if the habs are not going to be in the playoffs again, still get a good return for him from a team looking for a rental or a year left on a players contract.

Think about the consequences. If this is the way our team treat a player like Cole then how players like Subban/Price/Pacioretty/... want to sign with us later on. If all we think about is profit then these players simply leave when it's time for them to become FA.

This is what faces GMs. This very thought.

Look at what the Flyers did last year with Carter and Richards. And they got a better team for it.

You have to ignore this year and project out a couple of years what Cole will be worth and what his production will be. I have a feeling that Cole is at his peak.

Every players know its a business. Cole did not come here because he likes Montreal, he came here because the cash was better here then anywhere else.

Definitely. I'm not rushing to move him, but if you get something like Huberdeau plus then go for it. He's not a guy we're building around, so I would certainly entertain offers.

I wouldn't shop him, but I'd certainly listen to offers.

In recent years, if you play well for the habs, you could get shipped out, ie: halak
and now we are talking about shipping out cole. Only two guys that brought some excitement to the team in the past 3 yrs.

I have been a Habs' fan for 30 years because:

1) Our team rich history
2) Our team is always classy towards our players.

If we trade Cole at the deadline, I will look to become fan of another team. When this team is becoming just another team then there is no reason to following them especially when the Habs sucks at the moment.

Unless he himself asks for a trade, or a team offers an insane amount of great assets for him, no way do I want him out, he's carrying the team on his shoulders, bringing some kids along, shows what it is to always work hard, he seems to have a huge amount of leadership, and to be highly respected. AND he's productive... AND he's big and plays big... might be 33, but we've needed that kind of player for decades now, I don't care if his production inevitably declines, he's a model I want the team built around...

The short answer is no, the longer answer is nobody on this team is good enough to be untouchable.

I would not trade him for a pick unless its Columbus pick. Not saying i want him out, but if we get a good offer that makes us better in the long term, go for it. Fans have got to wise up, we are aiming at winning the cup. We might be emotionaly attached with a player but if we get better by trading him, go for it.
