Kolzig for Salo?

Just an idea, but don't they make the same amount of money? Both seem to need a change of address .... opinions?

Kolzig is a much better goalie than Salo though. He hasn't played overly well this season, but neither has the entire team over there, so I am inclined to think it isn't entirely his fault.
Regardless of who is better, I don't think the Oil are looking to add 6 million to their salary.

While I could see Salo in Washington, Kolzig is the last player I'd like to see in Edmonton.

If the Caps ate some of his salary, yes, I would take it. Salaries even only though. I feel Kolzig is a better goalie. Might improve both their games as well.

Ah, see I thought Kolzig was in around the 4.5 area. I definally agree that the salary is to rich then. All things being equal with contracts Kolzig for Salo wouldn't be out of the question though ...

NHLPA.com lists his salary for this year as $6.25M...who knew?? I'd want to move him, too, if I was the Capitals' GM, but it sure doesn't make sense for the Oilers.

We already have a goalie whose best days are behind him.

You all think Kolzig is washed up? The guy is an up and down goalie but he isn't bad. One year older than Salo, bigger and has posted good numbers in the past ... not defending the idea of the trade but I am just curious as to why there is negativity towards Kolzig as a player?

Salo has posted good numbers in the past as well. Olympic gold medals, IHL championships, and success overseas. He is a winner and he too is not washed up. Kolzig is solid but I'll take my chances with Tommy any day.

Straight across? Capitals eat the extra salary and he costs the same as Salo?

I would spin that wheel!

But that deal would never come off.

I would do that deal assuming Salo never comes out of his funk - but I think he is capable of resurrecting his career. Kolzig is stagnant like Salo right now but best against best I still like Salo. He has led this team to playoff appearance before and has stolen many games. I know the numbers aren't pretty but tonights game against Boston is evidence that defensively the Oilers are shaky at best. It doesn't matter how many shots its the quality of those shots. Conks tonight would have had a brutal save prctg but he definately played well and deserved better support in front of him. In the Kolzig - Salo trade off I will always go with Salo.
