Dave Stubbs @habsinsideout1

Habs icon Larry Robinson was suburban neighbour of Gary Carter. "A very, very sad day. Gary was a tremendous man. We miss him dearly"

Dave Stubbs @habsinsideout1

Denis Brodeur was Expos photographer. "Gary Carter was a really good family friend," Marty Brodeur said. "He signed photos for me & my brothers."

Wow...

That Carter montage at the Bell was pretty moving.

Where does all the time go?

I hear you......seems like yesterday that Carter was called up by the expos (as a left fielder you may recall) and the next year, he transitioned to the Catcher position....

Is there any chatter up in Montreal about building a new baseball stadium and trying to get another MLB team up there? Always thought under the better circumstances the Expos would still be there in MTL.

I was sitting in the nosebleeds that day. Still get goosebumps watching this. One last opportunity to shine, and he made the most of it. There'll never be 'a new Kid in town'.

The Daily Show's "moment of zen" had a little tribute for Gary Carter on Thursday. Jon Stewart is a Mets fan.

Guy Lafleur was saying that in the glory days of the Habs in the 70s, Carter would often party with the Habs. And when they won their 79 cup, Carter travelled with Lafleur to a different places to feel what it is winning a championship in Montreal. And his dream was winning the World series with the Expos. If there was ever a baseball player that had what it takes to be measured to the 70s Habs it was Carter.

For some reason, the moment that got to me last night was seeing Youppi standing there in his Expos uniform.

That would be one of the happiest days of my life, if that happened.
I don't see it happening, even with the best new stadium, as long as Buttwipe Selig is commissioner.

I don't really even think selig had it out for Montreal. The players went on strike in 94, no one wanted to own the team without a ball park, and finally I remember him trying to get a deal done for a ballpark when it seemed brochu and the local government deal fell apart.

I think the politicians deserve blame too, as does the corporate community in Montreal. No one stepped up for the team. However, the landscape is much different now in Quebec. The only thing that would be difficult (if there was ever a plan to build a proper ballpark) would be obtaining a MLB team. There are not many for sale because they are profitable. Look at loria for a decade he would collect revenue sharing and not invest back into the product. The Marlins made money.

It was Gary's funerals today in Florida where he was living.

There were a lot of people present.

The Big Cat Andres Galaraga was there and he delivered the best speach saying than Gary helped him when Andres had health problems.

There was also Warren Cromartie who said Montreal should be proud of what Gary accomplished, the Expos were the best when Gary was with them.

Daryl Strawberry said Gary Carter was not just a baseball player, he was what all men should aspire to be. Awesome compliment.

And I agree with Darryl. Just as a role model for kids, I mean he was frank, nice to everybody, a family man, outgoing but when he was on the field he had the heart of a lion. He wasn't just talent, he was the most determined guy I had ever seen. He was proud but in a positive way, you know? Sort of a cross between Flower and the Rocket.
