he still has his issues and sometimes he looks lost out there, but for the most part he's been so good i can't be mad when he makes a mistake. he's probably our 2nd best defenseman on the ice right now

It was NUTS. Not as bad this year with Dubi, but it's getting close.

And some of the justifications for trading DZ were absolutely absurd:

"We don't need an offensive defenseman anyway, Staal and Girardi will provide enough offense from our backend"

"Erixon will make the team out of camp and make Del Zotto expendable"

"Del Zotto is a momma's boy"

you trade MDZ for Nash in any way shape or form, and i can almost guarantee you our collective G/G will go down...possibly substantially. This kid does so much right out there it's not even funny.

21 years old, on pace for 40+ points, 4th in the league in +/- and has gotten so much better defensively. Anybody who even thinks about including DZ in a trade is out of their mind.

Everytime I see his stats I remember how many people wanted this dude gone, and wanted fowler whose defensively inept and laugh my ass off.

that crowd was huge last season, and i can proudly say i wasn't a part of it. I knew DZ had game regardless of how he was slumping as a 20 year old sophomore. I knew he was going to develop into a serious top 4 (i'm still thinking top 2 potential) guy.

the MDZ bashing posts also put me in double digits of ignored members.

he is playing like a top 2 D. Staal is starting to come back online. Man, if Sauer was healthy, our D would be ridiculously tough to play against.

No way we're trading him or McDonagh. There's a reason the organization has been so patient with him, and I think that played a big role in his success. He's a guy we need to keep on the blue line for as long as possible, because he'll sure as hell be hard to replace.

If Slats were to deal MDZ, it'd be a bigger mistake than when this organization dealt Zubov. And that haunted us for 15 years.

I don't get why so many people were calling him a bust after one tough season. Is it so hard for people to understand that defense takes a while to master, and the kid was like 20 years old. Some dmen don't put it together until they are 25 or 26.

Probably the best in the NHL.

i, like a few others here, will gladly take this moment to pat myself on the back for not overacting and giving up on the 20 year old defenseman

glad to see he's taking his game to the next level

i can't remebmer any other player going from whipping boy to hero like Del zotto has done...Anisimov has come close, and dubinsky is one playoff hot streak away, but neither has really crawled out from the depths of disapproval quite the way DZ has

Assuming no drop off in Stralman's play, I'd agree. People have complained for several years about our lack of a "#1 defenseman" who can shut down top lines and put up 50-60 points. I think this year we've seen that a group of defenseman who can all play solid defense while doing a good job of clearing the zone and jumping into the play is completely adequate (if not preferable to a more lopsided group).

Do you guys think he'll improve his shot? He misses the net too often. I wonder if he improves his shot if he can get 55-60 points.

Del Zotto leads all NHL defense with a +28 (Tied with Ian White)

He is 16th in terms of Points (Tied with Zdeno Chara)

He plays roughly 22:30 every game (18:30 at ES or PK)

Against the top tier teams in the league (SJ, PHI, BOS, STL, VAN, NSH, NJ, PIT) he has 17GP 3G 7A +10 22:23 TOI

At this point, to say he isn't at LEAST a #3, is preposterous. The stats don't lie and neither does the eye test. Sending him to the AHL last season worked, but I thought he should have been in the NHL because he was better than Gilroy, Eminger, or McCabe was. He was the odd man out when it came to Mcdonagh, Girardi, Staal, and Sauer. He'll never be the odd man out again. I cannot wait to see this team with a healthy Sauer.

McDonagh-Girardi
MDZ-Sauer
Staal-Stralman
Eminger/Bickel
Erixon

The thing with Del Zotto right now is that he's the kind of defenseman who can make a defensive play, start the puck the other way, then join the rush and score or set up a goal. That's pretty damn valuable. I think his skating has gotten a bit better too, just needs to keep working on his shot

I remember last year getting into a heated debate over MDZ and Fowler, where i defended MDZ.... where did that poster ever go?
