Well think about it, Koivu and him are supposedly friends, so I imagine they keep in contact a lot. If the Wild do something that pisses off Koivu like oh, telling him he has to center the second line because the first line is clicking so good, they risk alienating Granlund.

What the hell. Koivu is a professional hockey player and works his ass more than just about anyone, so let's keep this real ok. Koivu is not some whiny baby, I'm really not sure where that has ever been coming from except from some posters on the main boards who only live in their own egos. The giant ego "Koivu" has, has only been nothing but given to him by people that have no clue at all about what is truly going on.

Yeo chose to put the Heatley-Koivu-Seto line back together, and if anyone missed they were the only line scoring, then I just don't know what to say.

Koivu has an injury. We are not privy to it because they do not want us to be privy to it. We can speculate all we want, but can we at least try to be reasonable.

Koivu is not some mule and Granlund is not some mindless idiot. There might be a little incentive with Koivu being here, but that's it. I also highly doubt Granlund is having second considerations about re-entering the draft and getting picked by probably and even worse team! I mean come on. Let's not start this again.

I should probably point out that all of these thoughts of mine are along the lines of worst case scenario.

Scenario:

This team continues to fall in the standings and gets the number two pick.

Granlund refuses to sign with the Wild and re-enters the draft.

Yakupov is taken first overall.

Wild have second choice. Granlund is there.

DO WE TAKE HIM?

Koivu will heal....Granlund will sign (out of fear that Koivu will kill him if he doesn't)....and we'll move on to another day. No need to worry.

And as for Koivu getting this "weak" label, he sure wasn't weak when he said he'd be willing to tape up his broken finger and play through the pain. But as we know, that would have been stupid, because if you can't grip the stick right......

Eh, just tried it... Koivus head is a lot bigger than the bare-metal T-800 head.

I'm pretty sure someone picked the same player they received a compensation pick with that pick but can't remember who or which team it was.

EDIT: It was Tim Brent with Anaheim.

It all adds up. Brent was traded to Pittsburgh for Stephen Dixon, who is now plaing in SM-liiga and is right behind Granlund in points scored. There's a clear connection, no way Granlund is going to sign with the Wild.

...and yeah, about the Koivu injury then.

What about it? We know nothing. He is mysteriously missing games and it's starting to become annoying. I don't like day-to-day injuries when you're making close to $7m.

Wait, wait, Brent was traded to Pittsburgh?

Fletcher's gonna ship our compensatory 2nd to Toronto for Brent. You can pretty much book it.

At least it's just day to day, maybe re-aggravated something. Maybe back on Thursday.

my two worries are concussion or re injured his shoulder. in any case there is 4 days before the next game so we will find out.

this has been a very tough year for MN no telling where we would be if koivu was healthy.

I think if it was either of those, it would have been published by now if anything. Honestly if I were to make a guess...I would say this is family related.

Family related, but he can still watch the game from the pressbox? It doesn't really add up.

He's not even practicing with the team, so the injury could be worse than they're saying. They use to say Gabby was day-to-day when he was really a month out from returning.

But it's pretty funny how people are asking Russo repeatedly if it's not an injury but a trade in the works. As he's said....no. Zero chance. Next question.

And again, I'm only going on how the Wild and Russo have handled things in the past. If it's family, they always say personal reasons. Why lie and say it's an injury? They didn't with Backs. If it was family related, he probably wouldn't be at the games.

Of course, I could be absolutely wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. As long as we don't trade him for Chris Simon.

Is it possible he's got a relatively serious (re-)injury and they don't want to disclose it for fear other GMs will try to take advantage of the situation? I mean, we're really close to the deadline. This is the only thing I can think of that makes any sense.

99% sure we will find out he reinjured his shoulder. But that is just my gut feeling.

I feel like maybe he wasn't healed fully and came back early, he was making some stickhandling and puck control mistakes that are very atypical for him in the few games he was back. That giveaway against Anaheim leading to a goal being a prime example, Koivu doesn't mess up like that unless something is off. Just my two cents.
