Official word soon that Butch Davis is going to be on staff, but oddly not as DC. His position is Senior Defensive Assistant, following from Jimmy Raye being reported as Senior Offensive Assistant yesterday. Seems strange to have hired a couple of well traveled hand-holders before any coordinators, but then quite a few of the position coaches named in the media thus far are pretty young.

Interesting hire in Jimmy Raye. Only thing I remember about him is his lousy offenses and somebody tried to run him over in front of Old One Buc Place while he was out jogging one morning....

Bucs hire Giants QB coach Mike Sullivan as OC. Can't go wrong with hiring the position coach of the Superbowl MVP.

Quote:
"Sullivan was a defensive back at Army, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1989. He also has a master’s degree from Humboldt State. Sullivan is a graduate of the U.S. Army Airborne, Ranger and Air Assault schools."
Meet a real Solider, Kellen.

Sounds like a good hire and I don't think there's going to be any loafing when this guy is here....I think accountability is coming back big time!

Quote:
Sullivan recently earned his Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from Professor Louis Vintaloro at Perfomance Jiu-Jitsu Academy.
Is this the only coach that has been acknowledged as a "hire" so far? Seems like everybody else that's been mentioned as hired is a no comment from the Bucs.

A blue belt comes after white in most cases, so I'm not sure anyone should be scared just yet

Bucs again denied permission to interview for coaching position - this time by the 49ers for Donatell. Should've gone after Joe Barry before he signed with San Diego.

Just quit the BS and hire Davis as the DC and get this crap over and done with! Why don't we just pay the damn $2.7 that UNC owes him and quit being so friggin' cheap? They lost more money with Haynesworth and Black than they would with Davis and they won't have to pay for an "advisor" and a DC. Who's going to come here as a DC knowing that they have someone looking over their shoulder and questioning everything they might do? Besides, are the Bucs really sure we're being denied permission or are the teams just saying that because the coach is telling them "hell no"!?

Bucs article talking about how they're ready to spend:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...eady-to-spend/

And to help with that ideology, they freed up more space by axing Albert Haynesworth.

Butch Davis will be an extra set of eyes for new Bucs coach Greg Schiano, but has no interest in being a hands-on member of the coaching staff.

That's according to general manager Mark Dominik, who said the Bucs, if necessary, would consider approaching the University of North Carolina about Davis' $2.7 million settlement that prevents him from coaching.

"Sure, we would do that," Dominik said Tuesday. "But right now, that's not why he's here and not what he's doing here.

Yeah, I read that in the paper today and I understand where Davis is coming from. He essentially got fired without evidence against him and is content with sitting on the sidelines for a few years and collecting his severance pay. Hopefully, this isn't a hindrance to anyone interested in the DC job with having someone like Davis looking over his shoulder.

As far as Dominick goes, we've all heard it before so seeing is believing. I really don't trust much that comes out of One Buc Place anymore - just talking heads, then no action. As for Haynesworth, I think everybody saw that coming....nobody was going to pay him $7.2M for what he brings to any team.

Okay...I don't know what Raymond is either but what has a cat got to do with rays (other than eating them)?

He was the short skit during games that fans loved and it sparked everyone. Think Rally Monkey from the Angels' franchise.

Are you a Bond villain?

Where else could the possibility of a house cat eating a devil ray happen?

Bill Sheridan is the new Defensive Coordinator and Bryan Cox is on staff as an assistant.

Sheridan? Not a lot to get excited about. His track record as a positional coach is probably fine, but in a long coaching career he's been a coordinator for one season in 2009 where he managed to make the New York Giants one of the worst defensive teams in the league setting a team record for points scored against. A year after setting records of our own for points conceded, that's not something you want to hear. Maybe he'll work better with some sharp defensive minds in Schiano and Davis high in the food chain, but either way it feels like a stopgap hire while an earmarked younger coach is groomed for the position, maybe someone like Bryan Cox.

As for Cox, well if he's as aggressive a coach as he was a player, then a lot of players are about to get their ***** kicked. Actually, if we put him on the field today he'd probably be our best linebacker.

lol...Heck, who knows what they grind up in cat food nowadays - all I know is it stinks!

(BTW, I have a 25lb. cat I think would take on a Ray....he's a bit of a spaz and not always all there....)
