Good news, but can we change that duo to Weber and Suter?

3 yrs for Poile, not stated for Fenton.

Nobody should be suprised.
Do you think with the security, DP can now make the trade gamble he needs to make to get us to the promised land.......

Nah, it just means that he better not trade away assets that may be important to him to use over the next 3yrs, just paralyzing him all the more.....

I got the text from the Preds. It said The pPreds announce the contract extensions in the headline of it. Needless to say I was disappointed when I opened it.

IMO it gives Poile a set to go out and make a big deal. Could get interesting this week.

Good for the front office stability. I guess he's safe now, though, no matter what happens over the summer.

No reason not to extend his contract as he's doing a good job. Besides, whatever happens with Suter and Weber is irrelevent to whomever is in charge unless Poile is lowballing which as far as i know isn't the situation. Unless theres an issue between players and management?

I don't think Poile is to blame with the Suter situation in any way. I don't think any of us do.

I think Poile has been working on 1 year contracts (by Poile's choice, not the organization) for the past few years, so a three year deal would be a significant change. Anybody remember for sure if that is correct?

I remember the same thing. I am thinking Poile probably wanted flexibility with the ownership situation in flux. now that things are stable, a longer term deal makes sense.

And as for earlier comments about poile having security to make a gamble... I doubt seriously if Poile has any worries about job security... just like Trotz, if we ever fired Poile, he'd be snapped up in an instant.

I saw that on Twitter, I'm pretty sure it was the On The Forecheck guy. (Dirk)

Should we ask Suter if this is going to be a distraction to the team?

I think Poile and Fenton have done well. Fenton has been a good GM for Milwaukee.

After years of watching D-Wad run a team, this news pleases me.

I can just see the text and then you're heart skipping a beat only to fall back down. I gotta wonder if someone in the Preds office must've seen that coming and had a private chuckle when he/she pressed "SEND".

Good. I like it.

He may not always make the sexy signings but having Poile build our team is better than having an unknown guy as GM or having to hire one every few years because of signing the wrong players.

And I like the Fenton signing, too.

In all honesty, this is weird timing.

1) It's a week before the trade deadline. Mgmt should be putting all focus on improving the team, not working out extensions for themselves. Couldn't this wait a week?

2) This really is a tell-all year for Poile if he's able to get a team to elite status (something he's never done). If he blows up the team with nothing to show for it and we take steps back, he should be fired.

I've never petitioned for a Poile firing. Sure, there are other GMs I like better, but he's solid. But if we lose guys like Weber and Suter for nothing, don't get the offensive help we need, and the team takes steps back, we will be out of playoffs for a while. I would have given him a one-year extension and see what he does over the next year.

I think Poile pressed for the multi yr extension because this Suter/Weber saga may, indeed, blow up in his face.

If we're going to speculate all sides here, maybe Suter wants more stability in the office and wants Poile for a multi-year (if it's true he was only signing one year at a time).
