The thing is, they're not going down that road again, and I think it's pretty obvious. We knew they were going to have to talk about it at some point because of Victoria's comments at the beginning of the season, but it doesn't mean they're going to have Ted and Robin get back together.
I don't think they will, anyways. I hope I'm right too.
The show runners mentioned that they wanted to revisit season one stuff this year, one of which was Victoria, and one of which is lingering and unresolved relationship tension within the group. The other strand they wanted to unravel was the, 'where do you see yourself in five years?' angle. Five years on, they're addressing it.
I see it more as a blip before Ted starts moving on ...and on... and drearily on still more towards whatever end game they have in store for his character. Putting residual baggage behind him.
My guess? They spend almost no more time on the Ted-Robin relationship in the Go-Back machine than they did Victoria's return.
