Canucks pursuing Steve Ott (McKenzie)

Rumblings are Ott may be moved from Dallas.

Do you think there is a potential fit here on the Canucks?

He would fit the third line perfectly.........get that line some grit and alternative faceoff man

I don't know if the Dallas owner would veto the trade since he is from BC and hates the canucks owner?

Not with a $3 million cap hit. In event, with Henrik, Kes, Cody, Malhotra, LaPierre & Schroeder, Canucks don't need another center.

That's the beauty of Ott... he brings grit, can score, and plays all three forward positions equally well. His versatility, toughness, and added bonus of being very competent on faceoffs (ideal backup FW guy for Cody/Kes) make him tremendously valuable to any team, including the Canucks.

Well if we go for Ott we should fill out the team with the rest of "them" as well....
  • Raymond and a 2nd (2012) for Ott
  • 1st (2012) for Chris Neil
  • Schneider for Downie and a first (2013)
  • 3rd rounder (2012) for Kyle Beach

Not a fan of this draft.....

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Booth Kesler Ott
Higgins Hodgson Downie
Neil Lapierre Hansen

Malhotra Wiese Bitz.....black aces

Beach in the minors just for org depth

................

I kid, I kid.......but that 4th line....OMG

We don't really need a forward, but Ott is an intriguing guy.

As has been mentioned, he's extremely versatile. He's also annoying as hell to play against. I'd wager Ott and Lapierre are the two least liked players in the Western Conference.

Raymond for Ott? Would Dallas be interested in Raymond, or is that underpayment from their perspective?

What's Ott's contractual situation?

IMO - Ott is exactly what the team needs more of.

2.95 cap hit... solid value for a guy that's very difficult to play against. Ship Raymond the other way and the deal works cap wise for the Canucks.

No. I like our top 9 as is. Can we make an upgrade on defence, please? To me, that's the most obvious place to upgrade.

A trade surrounding Ott and Raymond was met with favour from both sides on the main boards a couple weeks back.

Raymond + our 4th for Ott.

We lose $400k in cap space, but get a perfect fit for the 3rd line LW with Hodgson and Hansen.

Allowing the AMEX line to build on its chemistry, or they can go full troll and Ice Lappierre, Ott and Burrows on one line.

Ott scores the goals that Mason Raymond doesn't.

I wouldn't offer much more than that offer above though, but i've been advocating this move for a while now.

$2.950M cap hit, actually. Ott would provide more then what Malhotra does IMO, so versatile, and would just be a solid addition all together. Plus, our troll-meter would go up to a solid 10.5 out of 10.

i said this in the gm thread, but i'll say again that if it's raymond and a pick outside of the irst round, i'd be thrilled. and i like raymond too, but ott brings so much more. because he plays wing but is an excellent faceoff man, that keeps cody on the ice late in games-- no more malhotra taking defensive zone draws yhen sprinting off the ice. plus he can score 20 goals, goes to the tough areas to score them, and still does all the defensive stuff may ray can do.

but i only lose that 500k in cap space if we can still add the RD we need so much more.

Ott (2.950M) makes more then Raymond (2.55M), but I think that'd all change as Raymond needs a new contract, and would want maybe ~3-3.25M? Ott is a gritty player, and will drive the net. Would be such a solid addition IMO.

The thought of a Burrows-Kesler-Ott shutdown/pest line followed by Bitz-Lapierre-Hansen sounds incredible, just to troll the hell out of every team.

I agree, but when a role player comes up, and you can get him for cheap you do it. I think Ott fits here better then Raymond anyways.

Either ott or morrow(if hes anywhere close to healthy by the playoffs) would make our team much tougher to play against .

Both guys are responsible defensively, play the game hard, drive the net.

i dunno, there would be too much negative vibes with ott playing here. he would make a media poop storm 10x worse.

not sure why he's so hated though.

I would love this; guy is having what looks like a career year, he's under 30 and on contract. Why is Dallas moving him?

No way Raymond gets a raise. He's a 1.75 type guy, IMO. It's been a while since he potted 25 goals.

Then the management would tell him to tone it down in interviews, or just not take them at all, simple.

hits a lot and sometimes straddles/crosses the line. but basically he's the perfect mix of raymond and torres, two guys that bring things we like to the table but also some big flaws.
