Can the Rangers even trade Sauer if he is on the IR?

If we trade for Nash we probably won't be able to sign our RFAs.

If we sign Parise we probably won't be able to sign our RFAs unless we trade players away.

If we win the cup, without Nash or Parise, doesn't our cap space go down like Chicagos did a couple years ago, therefore also hindering us from signing RFAs?

Someone posted a quote on the last page that he still believes Nash will end up here. I trust Dreger and his instincts. He has way more info than any of us

No, I would never boo Nash if he does eventually lace the skates at MSG. He's a great player but I'm just not sold on getting him unless Sather absolutely steals him.

This isn't your typical scenario. This guy is young, big, and has a goal scoring touch. I think most of the opposition comes from the fact that A) we're hearing untouchable names like DZ, Kreider, McDonagh, and Stepan; and B) his salary is about a million or so too high.

As long as the package is fair, this is a great move. As far as forwards go, Dubinsky and Anisimov are expendable IMO.

I'd have a really hard time saying goodbye to Kreider and Miller.

It seems like the Rangers are determined to do this. I'm shocked the value is as high as it is though. Guy has a 7.8 million cap hit for 6 years and he's only hit 70 points once in his career!

Like I said before, no Kreider, Del Zotto, McDonaugh, Stepan.

Every other prospect is fair game.

Really torn still. Nash as a player would actually be a great fit, but likely losing Kreider/Miller is a tough pill to swallow. The cap implications obviously concern me as well (not saying it's impossible to manage it however).

That said I'm not sure I see it happening. I see Philly/LA outbidding Sather and I know there is no chance he moves McD, MDZ, or Stepan. Plus as awkward as it would be Columbus can always keep him, at least til the summer.

No kidding, after the Yankees traded Montero for Pineda, I was rattled for a week or so until I realized It was the right move to upgrade the pitching... Looks like the same idea here upgrading the goal scoring.

It will definatly sting at first, but Im sure everyone would come around to it.

I don't want him by any means.

Even if Howland called up Sather and said, you can him for free. I'd still say no.

The cap doesn't really concern me all that much. Sather will be fine there. Losing a ton of prospect depth concerns me a lot more than that. And potentially losing MDZ/McD or whatever else.

I second this. We don't even have to worry about Stepan though, that's out of the question.

Not really.

I don't want anymore big long term contracts. Especially not one at 6/7.8 per.

No it's not. He's extremely over paid and just as over rated. I wouldn't take him for free either.

http://capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=22

With Nash (assuming Dubinsky is traded) we'd have about $13 mil in cap room in the offseason before signing Del Zotto. Everyone needs to calm down about the cap stuff. This debate should be about how much talent we're willing to lose... his contract means NOTHING.

The cap "problems" come in the 2013 offseason when we need to extend Stepan, Hagelin, McD, and Sauer. However, even with Nash we'll still have enough money. And then the offseason after that, Gaborik's contract comes off the books and we maintain great flexibility.

We can afford one more big contract like Nash, especially after knocking off Dubinsky's 4 mil hit. This is the equivalent to signing Nash to a $3.6 mil deal and keeping Dubinsky. Would ANYONE be against that? Yeah , it's a long deal, but Nash is young and he'll be what, 33-34 when the deal is up? That takes us right through his prime.

Wouldn't take him for free?

Please.

4th in goals since the lockout. 2 time 40 goal scorer, 6 time 30 goal scorer. 6'4 with blazing speed.

The contract is not good, but that's ridiculous. I understand not wanting to trade significant assets, but if you get a star player for FREE, you do it.

It would help if somebody did a cap analysis like we had hundreds of with BR.

100% yes to Nash, but i'm at like 50% when it comes to accepting his contract.

You don't win champions with all homegrown roster.

No matter the sport, championship teams usually make a key trade that helps win them a title.

The Rangers have done a great job with drafting and development.

Smart FA signings with Richards, Gaborik. But they haven't made that big trade yet.

Everyone is worried about that caphit and length, as am I, but can anyone (or has anyone) ran the numbers?

How difficult will it become to resign our core if we trade for Nash while sending out Dubinsky only as salary? (Just one of the possible scenarios)

Edit: What blueshirtblitz said.
