Both of you guys are ridiculous.

If we had him for free, we could simply trade him if the cap was a problem. I mean, how difficult do you think it'd be to get a 1st round pick for the guy with nothing else? Any team would give that.

Both of your statements are utterly ridiculous.

4th in goals since the lockout. 2 time 40 goal scorer, 6 time 30 goal scorer. 6'4 with blazing speed.

The contract is not good, but that's ridiculous. I understand not wanting to trade significant assets, but if you get a star player for FREE, you do it.
If Nash was a UFA would you sign him for that deal?

Don't lie, because I know this board would crash if we heard "New York Rangers sign Rick Nash to a 6 year 7.8 mill. per deal ".

It's $1M overpayment MAYBE.

What do you think a 27 year old 30+ goal PF would garner on the open market?

I guess the question really boils down to would the team be better right now with Nash replacing Dubinsky in the lineup. You have to think it would be. Yes, there will be fewer young assets in the cupboard but realistically, where will they all fit in anyway? I'm really, really torn because I've watched these guys grow up together (and there's no way I am giving up Kreider) but I can only imagine how wretching this is for the Ranger management. If it was easy, it would be done already.

I really can't even believe we are in the talks to acquire him. Just when we think the franchise has changed its motto, we're back ready to absorb ridiculous contracts. Not only his cap, but giving away what looks to be a large part of our future. It just doesn't make sense.

While I think we still need another goal scorer, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. We are in first place, and have been almost the entire year. What we're doing is working. I just don't want to see us deal away our future and have him cripple us.

It would be awesome to see him in a blueshirt, but it's just not worth it.

Why the **** not? We could simply trade him for a pick if it came to it.

Just because Player X demands said contract and gets it, doesn't mean he's actually worth it and it wasn't a complete overpayment.

I'm not the only one. Go through a lot of the posts in the Trade Board, plenty of Toronto fans and others, who want nothing to do with his contract either.

You people realize he could actually score more if he came to NY, right? He wouldn't always be playing against the other teams top players and would actually have some talent setting him up in Richards.

He's never played on a team where he wasn't the only scoring threat. Now teams would have to shut down him and Gaborik on seperate lines.

Sorry, Gaborik got 5/7.5 as an UFA after several injury plagued years. Nash at 7.8 is fine

We did stay the course and we're a great team because of it right now. The rebuilding phrase is over. It's time to win.

We're in a unique situation here. We have a surplus of young talent and we have a chance to acquire an elite scorer. All of this young talent isn't going to be able to stick. Look at Mats Zuccarello. Good player and all, but we just didn't have a spot for him. Obviously players like Kreider and the Miller most likely would have a long-term future here, but who knows if guys like Thomas, Borque, or Yogan can stick. If you can get Rick Nash, you try your best within reason to get him.

And we can afford to trade a defenseman right now. Staal, Girardi, McD, Sauer, and MDZ are all long-term pieces here. Losing McIlrath or especially Erixon isn't the end of the world. I like Stralman too and I think he could play a role here.

Look, I love Kreider and all of the prospects more than anyone. I don't want to lose any of them. But if we get eliminated in the 1st or 2nd round, we're going to lock back on not trading for Nash and regret it.

My first choice is to wait it out for Parise, but there's no guarantee he'll come here. If you can get Nash now without destroying our core or mortgaging our future, I say do it.

Seriously though, if Rick Nash is overpaid and overrated, what is Dubinsky?

This season was a telling one, as much as everybody wants to ignore

He's worth $6.5M at least.

He's played in Ohio his whole career, and to be honest, he hasn't lived up to expectations there. What if he comes to NY and falls flat on his face because he can't handle it? Good luck trading him then, Bob Gainey is out of the business

Honestly, my vendetta against him might be more personal because I really don't like him. I think he is VERY one dimensional and over rated and I think he could mess with team chemistry. In all honesty, I'm not being ridiculous, I really do not think the Rangers should get him under the current circumstances, even if it was fo FREE.

I'd be PO'd if Kreider is traded but I'll tell you what. Sather is a master at making trades. He usually wins the deals.

That is all I'll give him credit for ...

How difficult will it become to resign our core if we trade for Nash while sending out Dubinsky only as salary? (Just one of the possible scenarios)

Edit: What blueshirtblitz said.
We're going to have more than enough cap room to sign everyone as long as Dubinsky gets traded and we don't give out any crazy long-term Sather contracts this offseason.

Yep - first season Dubinsky's been on a legitimate contender. He's not going to be a major offensive contributor on an elite hockey team. He's great as a third liner/fill in second liner. Not at $4.2M.

He could go to Columbus and have a few good offensive seasons for them playing 22 minutes a night.

This is the most likable Rangers team in years. Would hate to see it shaken up with a big trade.

A new CBA is on the horizon this summer. The cap situation will likely change drastically. GM's have seen the folly of the current CBA. No worries!
