Gillis does not seem to care about media perception. If it was key, he'd have never acquired Lapierre.

I thought when you're an RFA you had to get some sort of raise. Might be for a certain type of RFA or something, who knows, but I can still see him asking for a raise. He has potential to do well on Dallas, and if he does, he'll likely get a bit of a raise.

Yeah, you're right. There's qualifying offers there. - my bad. I don't know what the rule is - some percentage of his current deal?

I thought it was like 100% or 150% (I have no clue, honestly, it could be like 10% for all I know, lol) or something of his last cap hit. I'd rather a 2.95M Ott over a Raymond for ~3M+, honestly.

I'd trade Raymond for Ott.

I always thought it was a 10% raise on his current deal, so his QO would be close to 2.8m...Gillis has to send it or Raymond becomes UFA.

Raymond does not have to sign it though, his camp can negotiate a multi year deal, which may or may not come with a lower cap hit.

The current team must extend a "qualifying offer" to a restricted free agent to retain negotiating rights to that player.
Players who earned less than $660,000 in the previous season must be offered 110 percent of last season's salary. Players making up to $1 million must be offered 105 percent. Players making over $1 million must be offered 100 percent.

- If the qualifying offer is not made, the player becomes an unrestricted free agent.
- If the player rejects a qualifying offer, he remains a restricted free agent.
- If the player does not sign before December 1st, he is ineligible to play in the NHL for the remainder of the season.
From Wikipedia not always the most reliable, but this seems pretty accurate, nonetheless.

I'd only want Ott if he can buy into the team system like Lapierre.

Isn't Ott a good team guy? Is there something out there to indicate otherwise? I have no idea. I know he's a jerk off on the ice......but maybe he's good in the room?

OP might've heard it just on TSN or something, rather then on their website.

No not like that. I actually thought he had more penalty minutes.

That`s correct. I couldn`t find a link online myself, but I`ve heard both Bob Mackenzie and Steve Koleus mention it today on TSN.

http://watch.tsn.ca/featured/clip622753#clip622753 @ the 3 minute mark.

McKenzie says that he's been hearing his name a lot more and that he could be on the move. "Got to be a hockey deal, he's not a rental, not a giveaway" and that "He's certainly in the mix"

20 other teams in or near making the playoffs would overkill to get this guy

Not Gillis' style

Ott has an NTC so he has a lot of control if he does get moved. He'd be a great addition IMO.

But Gillis has something that most other playoff bound teams don't have - a guy in Raymond that can step into Dallas' top 6/9 and replace Ott's minutes. How many other teams will be willing to move a roster forward better than Mason Raymond? If Dallas is looking for a hockey deal, Vancouver has an excellent shot here...

Nobody likes Steve Ott. That's why you want him on your side. By all accounts he's very well liked by his teammates.

Sick him on Joe Thornton for a 7 game series. Finally we would see Thornton eat **** for disrespecting the Sedins for no other reason than he can. Ott going head to head with Thornton is a good time...

Ott should be a terrific fit alongside Hodgson and Hansen. It would be huge going from winning 41% of draws to 57%. It would also give the Canucks 4 bottom 6 wingers that like to crash and bang - good fit for AV.
