The deal isn't fair, though. If Crosby is healthy and is Crosby, he has more value than that Chicago proposal. If Crosby isn't healthy, no one is trading for him.

It's quite simple. You either don't trade the best player in the world, or you don't trade for an injured player that can't get on the ice.

Is this a value thread or not?

Thread title says value but your OP suggests proposal.

Offseason trade.

Kesler, Bieksa, Raymond, 2 1st.

Crosby, Martin.

Or more appropriately, the problem is that nobody can have Rick Nash for free. They can only have him for 7.8 million / year.

maybe Kesler, Raymond, Ballard and Schneider for Crosby. In my dreams though.

If Crosby is healthy, Pittsburgh gets owned by that deal. Concussion-free Crosby for Toews+Kane would be in the correct range.

You'd think the team trading for Crosby would be a little suspicious that Pittsburgh was offering Sid up at all. Seeing as the only explanation would be related to his concussion issues (or neck problems or whatever it is now), I'd assume Pittsburgh was trading him because the prognosis was not so good...

I don't get some of these proposals. If Penguins are openly shopping Crosby it's because they're uncertain about his ability to stay healthy. That's going to bring the price down significantly.

Wow it's amazing, I never knew pens fans loved him this much that they would turn down Nash, yakapov, and a 1st (likely top 5 again) to keep an injured Crosby. Seems like insanity

You can have it all. Price, Subban, a 1st, whatever. Name it.

go back via time machine and draft toews instead of staal, dont sign martin for 5 million dollars. use said time machine to also trade joseph melichar for the pick that becomes keith.

dont allow the pens and caps to play in a rain soaked "winter classic" and keep sids brain intact.

follow this by winning the cup for the next 10 years .... case closed

Exactly. That's why you don't do it.

Your math needs as much work as your trade discretion.
Pretty well, actually. They picked up Martin Gelinas and Martin Rucinsky with those picks, who proceeded to outscore Gretzky 550 goals to 311 goals and 1272 points to 1188 points. That's 22 points above replacement value. And they flipped Carson for Petr Klima and Joe Murphy, picked up another cup in 1990, and kept their franchise out of bankruptcy. Not a bad deal, in my opinion. (Via AIH.)

Pens' home sellout streak is approaching something like 270 games. Ownership knows a lot of that is due to Crosby. Even Malkin knows that. Even when Crosby has only played a dozen games in the last year plus.

That is the only number you need to know to close this thread as completely ridiculous.

Crosby alone to Chicago for Toews, Kane, and Hossa. Chicago reworks all three contracts to make their cap hits whatever 8.7/3 is.

Kunitz - Malkin - Neal
Hossa - Toews - Kane

I could deal with that top 6

What about Cal Clutterbuck for Crosby? Pittsburgh has always been looking for that gritty winger to pair with crosby.

Reminder that Ray Shero said he'd pay Crosby "whatever he wants".

Sid isn't going anywhere unless Sid decides he wants to go somewhere.

Hmmm...a deal with the league would have to involve another Cup...

I'd give Kopitar + Doughty for Crosby and Letang all day every day.

I'd also do Kopitar + Johnson for Crosby + Martin.

No idea. Catch a GM that likes to gamble and he'll knock down his whole organization to get a guy like that. Find one who's more conservative in terms of risk and...nope, no idea what kind of return you would get.

some of these proposals....wow. speaking in terms of value, u have to gut ur team to get crosby. speaking in terms of reality, u can't have crosby.
