I have a feeling the NJ loss is our nail in the coffin.

We could have been 4 points away from 8th spot with 2 games in hand on Jets (9th) and we play Toronto 2 more times (if I remember correctly).
Unless Habs go on 5-6 game winning stretch , it doesn't seem likely we make it and will only end up with a 10-14th pick.

When you're putting nails in a coffin it means the body's been dead for awhile already. The Habs season stopped breathing weeks before the Jersey game.

The thing is we have as much of a chance of making the playoffs as we do getting top 3 pick...

not really
I know it hurts
but Toronto and Washington lost their last game, so we arent doomed.

a win tonight combined with a toronto loss would be perfect to remove the nail from our dead coffin

Nope, one win by Canes and Buffalo.. We have a top 3 pick. We need a plethora of wins and 5-6 teams to lose consistently to make the play-offs.

But like Dracula, we will rise again!

We're not dead, just resting (like the Norwegian Blue)

The season isn't over. Besides. if the Habs end up in that range it's not unlikely that the Leafs will be keeping them company.

For many, the season has been over for a while. Most would consider it a miracle for us to make the POs.
Our best chance IMO is if Markov comes back soon enough and performs well. That might give us an edge, but I don't think that will happen because we have decisions to make before next week. We need to sell players if we don't intend on re-signing them. No point in keepin them when we have so many teams ahead of us.
Once we sell, we're likely to worsen our team in terms of skill, and so, have even less chances of making it.

It was the one against Carolina.

It was another proof that this team can compete in the playoffs.

After such a crappy season I can't believe we sit 6 points out of a playoff spot and 1 point from 3rd overall pick.

Crappy place. With the third pick No Grigo, if we make the play-offs we probably don't get past the 1st round. Anywhere in-between and the pick is a crap shoot.

Galchenyuk? What's his story? Is that another AK or would he be a top three pick if he wasn't injured this season. I've read he could be challenging for first overall pick if he played. Anyone have more insight that follows draftees a little closer then most of us here?

We should have been dead a week or two ago but the incompetance of Washington and Toronto have actually kept us in it. Looks like 90 points might be good for the playoffs. 16-6 in the remaining games to get to 90 points. I don't see that as likely, but stranger things have happened.

I hope we go 6-16 however since I don't want any excuses to keep PG.

same here, the one against Carolina probably hurt the most, 3 game win streak going and could have really turned things around for us, couldn't afford to lose that one and it killed us

I thought our season was over when we were at 12 points from the playoffs. Now, we're at 6. I don't think we're dead. I'd just like us to be at 10 points from the playoffs so we wouldn't be in this "in-between" place I hate so much.

The shutout loss to St. Louis was the nail in the coffin for me.

This season is a bust guys. No Markov, No Gionta and now no Gill.

LEts move on. Trust me, I know it hurts, but a good draft pick will be good for us. I just hope we don't finish 9th !

If you're in the bottom 5, you have a chance at the 1st overall pick.

This is such a weird season. We're just points away from both a playoff spot and a lottery pick.

I think we could make the playoffs but I doubt it. I would rather end up last than in 9th place though, because then at least we get something out of our crappy season. To be honest, I don't think it's even worth it to end up in 8th place. We don't have a chance in the playoffs, so we'll end up with the 14th pick and we'll be in the middle of the pack all over again.
