I say we trade him while he's still playing well. God only knows if he could keep this up for another season, and it's not like we don't have a dozen other goaltenders who we are trying to play. Let it be Monty/Poulin and that guy who takes our money while he watches from the press box.

Sounds good to me! Hope he signs, would be great to have stability in goal, and give Poulin some time to grow into his role.

Does it matter? One thing about our team is we won't have cap issues for the next 3 or 4 years.

Though signing Suter for 8 million a year could certainly change that....

I'm guessing 3.5 million + a lot of unattainable bonuses giving him a cap hit of 5 ;-)

I am not worried about Cap issues. You cant just overpay guys because you have space. I do not want guys asking for more money because we over payed X player. Why cant they just over pay me.
you going to get guys who will expect to get a bigger paycheck then. No thanks. Not something i would want personally.
3M per season tops.

I hope like hell nabby is resigned. we need a guy to steal games for us like he does and yesterday is a pretty good showing that montoya poulin 1 2 isnt gunna get the job done. let nabby steal a few more games and those extra couple games could be all it takes to get into the playoffs next year. those stolen games that montoya and poulin will not provide for us

Has Nabokov made any comments about re-signing, or just his agent? Either way, it would be great if he came back. Brings so many opportunities for UFA's.

If Nabby signs, especially for 2 years...that could lead to speculation that Isles management is done (finally) with DiPietro.

I suspect Nabby is not going to sign if he's got to deal with another 3-goalie carousel or will have to sit the bench for stretches to cater to Rick's re-re-re-re-redevelopment. I suspect Nabby would want some assurance that he'll be the bonafide starter. That can't happen if Rick is still around thinking next season is the season in which he pulls it all together and plays like a #1 NHL starter. Snow could tell Nabby that, the worst (or best) case scenario is that he could split time with Rick. But I still don't think that gets Nabby signed, even if the Isles show him the money.

I dunno...it's a tough call.

I think if Nabokov comes back he is without a doubt the starter. Rick becomes the backup until his injury.

after that, signing Nabokov would be no less than a complete shock. Especially after seeing how awful the support cast is in front of him and how poor the on-ice results are.

It makes no sense.

And I'm not celebrating until it happens - and I'm not convinced it will happen.

As hopeful as I am. I agree with you.

Until I see a press release about Nabby's new deal, I'll assume Snow wants him to sign and Nabby will bail after this season anyway if not traded.

I swear to god, if Wang and DP cause Nabokov not to stay I just give up.

On the bright side, if Nabokov signs I think thay may signal the end of DP

I'm calling complete BS on the whole Nabokov situation. He's being traded, and Garth has known it all along. I'm certain that he's "talked" to Nabokov's agent, but I'd also be willing to bet that he did make a wink wink-nudge nudge deal with Nabokov, and he will be departing within five days. He's got the flu and there are "contract negotiation"? Garth just wants to make it look like "we tried, but in the end it didn't make sense." He'll be traded, he certainly won't be re-signed.

Wow. Didn't know you work for the Islanders. When you see Nabokov tell him I said Hi.

Unreal

That's a fair question. So it deserves a fair answer. Knowing what the organization once was and once stood for, I don't trust anything about anything this regime does. So much is a play on words and/or spin doctoring.

I think a $5 million cap hit is excessive. I can't see him getting more than $3 million.

Im not so sure as his last NHL contract was 4yrs @ 21.5M. I would love to get him at 2yr 6M but i think if we want him to stay it will be closer to 2yr 8M
