Kings @ Coyotes 2/21/12 - Straight talk from Sutter

If the Kings don't ever win a game again, it's refreshing that the coach is speaking the truth and not some contrived BS.

“Kopitar and Brown to get going. Neither one has done much for six weeks. These guys talk too much about the team. They should talk more about more about themselves, what they bring to the table.

Kopi and Brownie have been stale, from my standpoint, for a little while together. In terms of producing opportunities, if it’s working backwards, in terms of who you perceive as your fourth line, to your first, then it’s not really a team thing.’’

"(Kopitar) has to bring more energy and more purpose when he has the puck. It’s not that he’s playing poorly. If you didn’t look at him as a high-end offensive player, he’s playing well enough in the three zones, but when he’s got the puck in the offensive zone, he’s got to be a lot more determined, purposed player when he has it in the offensive zone. He does a really good job of getting there with it and helping everybody else get there, but he’s got to do a better job once he has it there, because he’s capable."

“Brownie is a straight-line, up-and-down, go-to-the net, shoot-the-puck, run-over-people player. If he’s not doing all those things, he’s not effective."

Wow, could we actually lose three 1-0 games in a row???

I don't think this has ever happened in LA history.

All I know is if you've been betting the under on Kings games you'd have made an absolute killing this year.

Sutter should say more, such as:

Penner has to play harder and faster and get to the net or he is useless,

Stoll is good at draws but otherwise underachieving badly,

Doughty and Johnson are way overpaid for what they bring to the table and need to activate a lot more,

Voynov will get more playing time,

Quick should get an extension right now!

Don't make a bad trade again, Dean...

There's a new moon tomorrow. That might help the Kings go on a two-week winning streak.

Sadly I would be happy with baby steps.

Like just attack center ice more, get to the net. If the Kings make Mike Smith actually have to work this time(and the PHX D).

I will be happy, how sad is that ?

Kopitar please at least once attack center ice.

From the results of the last two games, I wouldn't be surprised. I'm gonna say it another shutout lost.

Three shutouts in row ?

Well the PGT would probably be empty. Cause all of us would just be numb to it all by then.

If they get into the Third period and the Kings still haven't scored......

I mean what does Sutter do then ? That is a lot of Hockey periods with no Goals.

Put Richards on the 1st line, Kopi on the 2nd.

About time somebody call these guys out, they have sucked since the all star break.
Kopi is a nice guy, maybe that is his problem.. Needs to play with more of an edge..

At this point I'm just shocked DL hasn't done a trade of some sorts to shake things up. I obviously don't know what's out there and obviously DL doesn't feel he can get full value back in a trade, but it's clear the coaching change wasn't enough of a signal to the players. I expected some sort of deal by now. Even the Trent Hunter waiving was far to late.

It didn't even have to be a core player. Trade Brad Richardson for a 4th or something, just make a move and send out a guy who isn't pulling his weight. DL made a big stink about berating the guys for a piss poor effort when TM got fired and said others were on the block if things didn't improve.

Well, things didn't improve. Our record was better, but the underlying problem -lack of goalscoring- wasn't. And DL hasn't done anything to re-enforce the message.

I have bet the under in every single Kings game since about Christmas time of last season, it has been the easiest and least stressful thing I have done in my life as a gambler.

The Kings have only been involved in a game with over 5 goals once in the past 17 games, and that was thanks to a BS empty net goal with 3 seconds left to make it 4-2 in Dallas.

I have never seen a hockey total at 4.5 goals, but it still might be a decent play in a Kings game if you were getting the right juice. These Kings lines at 5 are almost a guarantee to be nothing worse than a push.

I don't usually bet games with teams I cheer for, but this has been a bit of a consolation for having to watch this awful brand of hockey the past 6 years. And I would give every dime I've won back to have watched a championship caliber team.

Is it too early to call this a must win game? If the Kings come out sluggish again to start the game and lose at some point you have to begin dumping players regardless of return to send another message. Although, at this point I think plenty of messages have been sent and none have been received by King players. The part that has me is isn't this roster supposed to be full of character guys since that is what Lombardi has been preaching since he came on board? Where is the heart and soul guys, where are the character players? These guys seem devoid of any sort of emotion, robots sleepwalking through game after game after game.

Does it really matter if a player plays on so called first or second line ?
