I'll never forget that wonderful moment. I was just driving out of my development at a red light waiting to make a right turn when all of a sudden I heard on the radio that Gomez was traded to Montreal for Chris Higgins and a top prospect. I was visably extatic, smiling and hitting my steering wheel and talking to myself saying things like "Sather you son of a ***** I love you!!!"
Hopefully winning the cup will be nearly as joyous of a feeling.

Where were you when Gomez was traded?
I don't remember where I was when he was traded, but when Dury and Gomez were signed, I was using the internet on a pay-internet machine at a cafe in Ibiza, Spain.

Haha this one I remember vividly, I was working for the Long Island Ducks, being a Board Op for the radio broadcast. I remember refreshing ESPN Every 10 seconds at the request of Chris King(Isles radio color guy and Ducks PBP man), cause i think he wanted Ryan Smyth updates... I was able to break the news about Gomez and Drury and was basically talking trash to him...in hindsight I would probably not talk that much trash haha.
As far as the Gomez trade went i think i was still living in my parents basement and was just staring at the board when someone posted the trade... I just stared at in disbelief that someone would take Gomez's contract and give us a 20 goal scorer to boot. I assumed that McD was some Roster filler throw in, then I checked HF rankings and realized gainey gave us a legit prospect too, i still have no idea how that happend, but thanks.
I was studying for the bar exam and checked these boards during a study break.
Getting rid of Gomez was enough of a reason to be thrilled, but to acquire a stud defenseman in return was the icing on the cake. Easily my favorite Sather move.

Where were you when Gomez was traded?
I was driving to Fort hamilton to do some grocery shopping. I was on Bay Ridge Parkways and started beeping my horn.
I ran home, kissed my wife, then jumped on the trade thread...
Walking with my friend back to his house before I walked back to mine when I checked my phone and saw the great news. I went nuts with him just confused lol.
Great thread topic! I had a softball game after work, which had gotten rained out, so I headed over to the gym. I was on the treadmill for about two minutes when I saw it on the bottom line of ESPN. I ran out of the gym, checked the board from my cell phone and then drove home with a Kool-aid smile on my face. OH YEAH!

This is the one I remember well.
I was in an internet cafe in Bangkok, Thailand. Screamed out loud. Oh how I was wrong...
I remember I was at a follow up for my wisdom teeth post-op and checked my phone and saw the Tim Erixon news. Screamed out loud again.
Was woken up and told that Gomez was traded. Immediately turned on NHL Network to see what we got...and I was quite ecstatic at getting BOTH Higgins and McDonagh.
June 30, 2009, around 7:30 PM. I had just graduated college the previous month so I was basically a full-time Fantasy Baseball GM/Rangers off-season strategist. I open up my internet browser to rotoworld.com and what do you freakin know - the top headline is Rangers trade Gomez to Canadiens. Before I do anything else I run around the house screaming "the Rangers just traded their best player...hallelujaaaaaaaaaaah." Then like any citizen of HFBoards would do, I came on here to share in the the sheer joy of Rangers fans and to witness Habs fans go from denial to acceptance. Of course the climax was when it was learned that Mac Truck was involved in the deal. Thank the good lord for Bob Gainey.
I know it's here or on the interwebs, but can anyone list what the final trade was after picks, cap space etc.
Chris Higgins, MCD and cap room for Gabby, there's more I'm missing right?
On June 30, 2009, Gomez was traded by the Rangers, along with Tom Pyatt and Michael Busto, to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Christopher Higgins, Doug Janik, Ryan McDonagh, and Pavel Valentenko.
I remember it well. I was taking a nap and then turned on my Sirius XM to Chris Russo's show and heard it during the update, maybe an hour after it happened. Great day.
