We need the defense so much more than we need the offense. Teams with good defense and weak offense can still make the playoffs. Teams with good offense and horrible defense don't.

We can't be afraid to shake things up. And I would rather build a solid defense now. We already have a sick 1st line with Hall/RNH/Eberle that will be here for a long time. More than most teams will say. IMO that really makes defense a priority over secondary scoring. Secondary scoring would be the easiest thing to trade for/sign, or even draft

Because for salary purposes, CBJ would need to take some salary back. Jack Johnson would be the main piece going back, but there would be other pieces going back.

I doubt LAK trade both JJ and Voynov, I think if they trade JJ, then Voynov would get on the bottom pairing after bumping everyone on defense up.

I could see them trading Bernier in that package. Same with a guy like Loktionov.

Maybe but I think contending was always their direction.

I also think Deano stays clear from Carter. Lombardi was part of the staff from Philly, and Homer didn't trade Carter and Richards for ***** and giggles.

I'm sure Lombardi knows the deal with Carter and Richards, and I doubt he'll risk that once more. Especially when his job is on the line.

Downie traded to Colorado.

I kinda wanted him. He'll be a pain to play against.

Unless he was asking for 4mil I don't understand this, although I don't know the return yet.

I would have gladly taken Downie. He has flown under the radar a bit playing for the Lightning. Can't see his next contract being too outrageous.

I think he's a UFA after the season, unless the Av's resign him. The Oilers play them once more this season so it may not be so bad if he signs elsewhere when the season is done.

I don't think it's Quincey, I think this indicates Colorado is aiming for the playoffs.

Probably one of their young D-man ie Elliot or Barrie?

He's an RFA after this season according to capgeek.

It's funny on twitter people are blowing up and saying that this means the Avs are making a serious push for the playoffs. They could very well, but this move isn't just about this year. It's about making them a tougher team to play against going forward.

According to the main board, it's Quincy, kind of makes sense.

And Kyle Quincey goes the other way. Kinda one of those fill a hole open a new one for COL. Although I hear Johnson is really play well as of late. Good move for TB now that I see the return.

Datsyuk out for 2 weeks. Hey Holland! You need a #1 center? Horcoff?

So it's Quincey for Downie.

I'm not sure I exactly get this for Colorado unless there is a bigger move coming that gets them some D.

Quincey has played 2nd most ES time, 3rd most PK time, 2nd most PP time and for all intents and purposes plays the tough minutes for that team from D.

They are 11th in the West with the 19th ranked GA/G in the NHL and have given up the 3rd most GA in the west.

I'm not sure they have an internal replacement who can come in and play those minutes Quincey did. They got value for him, for sure, Downie will be a tremendous player moving forward, but if this is all they do, then there is a chance they sink towards the bottom for the west and give the caps a top-10 pick in the draft.

Yeah that trade makes complete sense for Tampa. Not so sure about Colorado although I'd gladly give them Barker.

So maybe like my Downie comment COL knows that Quincey is asking too much?

In terms of "young core forwards" (ie under 25) how would you guys compare us to Colorado???

Stastny
Duchene
Landeskog
O'Reilly
Downie
Mueller
Galliardi

vs

Hall
Eberle
RNH
Gagner
Paajarvi
Lander

I give the nod to Colorado AS OF TODAY simply because O'Reilly is a monster. Is that fair?
