If we can get a 2nd rounder for him, trade him and move on.

We got Subban with a 2nd rounder. We've thrown so many of them away lately for role players, now it's the time for us to fill the prospect cupboard again.

As much as I like Moen, he's a role player. A replaceable role player.

Did this ever happen though?

What a great piece of journalism! Thank you for such insight! I was under the impression that Gorges was about to admit that he wants certain teamates to be traded, but sports journalism saved the day! Phew!

As do I i think for the first time we have a great chance to have a gritty bottom 6

LeBlanc - Eller - Moen/UFA (Ruutu would be perfect)
Geoffrion - White - Moen/Schultz

If you land something great for him, trade. Tell him to wait until 1st of July before signing anything, 'cause we sure will make him a nice offer, and want him back next year.

Talk to Gorges and the team, explain we want to improve the team's future, and well do our best to have him back at the first opportunity.

Just DEAL with your players. Talk to them. Cater to their emotions. Jeez, IS IT THAT HARD? They are human beings!

The Habs have a good recent history of finding useful 4th liners on the scrap heap. Begin, Kostopoulos, Darche. I don't like the idea of re-signing a comparable player at full market value, and giving up a potential 2nd pick return in the process.

That's true, but Moen is at least a notch above those guys. To me you have to factor in how much it would cost to extend him 2-3 years, and obviously the return.

Right... but I just can't see Gauthier talking to Mister Moen - or any other player, for that matter - that way.

Gorges also said we should re-sign Gill.
The guy is a player and wants his friends to stay on. He doesn't have a say in the matter.

Trade Moen if the return is good.

Seems every deal that PG has struck has included a player with 3rd line potential. Shouldn't these players start stepping in for departing players?

He is a solid 2nd line player.

Otherwise, I would keep Moen IF he agrees to sign a new contract before Monday.

It would be nice to keep Moen but you gotta look at this in his situation.
Only 29 and becoming a UFA. He aint signing here within the next week
when he can wait all summer for his career contract.

They need to re-sign him. I doubt any other GM makes a move to acquire him based on the fact that he is currently injured and won't play at all this week. The only option, at least in my mind, is to re-sign him and retain his services. I'd hate to see the Habs lose this guy for nothing during the off-season.

And if any GM does trade for an injured Moen, well... I'll be damned.

What would Gorges know about the quality of another NHLer? Is he a poster on this board? If not, he has no qualifications.

Of course Ruutu would be. I mean, he's going to come here and sign for only 2 mill!

He apparently wants 5 mill. He's going to be paid as a top 6 player.

If Moen is still on the Habs Roster after the deadline with NO contract extension, i'll be mad.

We want to be tough, Moen fits that bill. So obviously we should keep him....but we are not in a position to make him an untouchable.

Well that always come down to what teams are offering for the guy I mean I highly doubt he can fetch that, but gauthier would be crazy not to trade him for a 1st round pick as an example, but then again I want the guy to re-sign he is the perfect bottom six forward and he is the kind of guy this team need. Plus, he is like our second or third best defensive forward he is underrated in that aspect, but he is doing an awesome job and he is very important, because of that.

Add to this a big mean defensive dman that can play more minutes than Gill and is effective on the PK and that would be a great lineup IMO.

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole
Bourque-Plekanec-Gionta
Leblanc-Eller-Ruutu
Geoffrion-White-Moen
(Darche as spare foward)

Markov(hopefully)-Gorges
Emelin-Subban
Kaberle-Allen
Diaz-Weber

Price
Budaj

Size, physical, good skating, two-way team.
