First goalies to wear colored/synthetic gear

This was just probing my curosity. Who were some of the first goalies to wear more modern looking goalie gear? I'm sure it must have begun in the early 80's. Prior to that it was all the genuine brown leather stuff.

I believe it was Reggie Lemelin.

Exactly what I came to post. Lemelin sported the 'Aeroflex' pads which were the first that I saw that weren't just coloured leather (i.e. as seen on Fuhr, Smith, etc.).

I actually meant the first goalie to wear colored gear. I kinda assumed colored gear automatically meant it was made of synthetic material since genuine leather is hard to dye.

I did some looking and it seems as if Billy Smith and Richard Sevigny may have been among the first wear gear that matched their teams colors

Sevigny

Smith

Wonder when the Smith image was taken?
