It would be through a trade. At that point we need to worry about cap issues so it doesn't matter if we get a young prospect back or a pick, Gabby being on the last year of his contract shouldn't be too hard to move.

Dubi/AA, McIlrath/Thomas, Sauer, 1st in 12, 1st in 13. The extra 1st puts them over the top.
I echo these sentiments almost to a T.

**** futures and late 1st round picks if we make a deal for Nash and keep Kreider, Miller, Erixon, etc. We'd still have a fantastic system.

Not too shabby. People have been saying he looks GREAT and saying he's the best defensive prospect not in the NHL right now.

You guys are missing the point what the hell does Dubinsky have to do with this he is irrelevant in this discussion.... Forget him I love the kid he gives us 10000% but he is not that talented and cannot even come close to the talent of Nash. What worries me more is our 2 youg blue liners mcd and mdz and kreider period that's it forget everyone else they are all expandable.... Thomas, Erixon Duby anisimov msc all I care about besides the obvious core of the rangers ( the cally Staal girardi lundquist u get the point ) is that A. Kreider B. Mcd Mdz and big Mac are not part of this deal.... Period tochka that's it don't even waist you're time and ours trying to defend Duby in this trade proposal. By the way I am against this trade and I love Nash but I would rather have one of the Anaheim horses instead and they would cost less.

Obviously there's no guarantee, but you have to admit it, this team needs more scoring, not MOAR grinders.
If not winning the cup right now means that this team can be the new Detroit Red Wings, consistently good year in and year out, I'm much more ok with that.

It matters if the hypothetical is predicated on a trade that Sather can't pull off. Then, the cap constraints come into play. I would be hesitant to commit another large contract for the next 6 years to a guy who will also require a fairly large acquisition cost.

Erixon is going to be a stud. I try to keep him at all costs.

I even throw JT Miller into the deal to keep Erixon.

Dubi, McIlrath, Miller and a 1st.

Three guys who project to be good but not great, and what will very likely be a late 1st.

Tim Erixon: 35 games, 2 goals, 24 assists, for 26 points. For his first American season and for someone that young, that's pretty damn impressive. He was also a +1 showing that he's not a defensive liability (although no one ever claimed him to be).

That averages out over an 82 game season to about 60 points I believe. Now I know it's the AHL but it shows how talented he is offensively.

Why play the game if not to win the Stanley cup. You could either be Detroit or be the Capitals.

And if Columbus rejects your offer -- then what? Are you then willing to through in one of the above three?

I'm totally with you. My prospects in terms of keeping them are: Kreider, Erixon, Miller ... everyone else is completely expendable and like you I would throw Miller in there as well.

Detroit has been competitive for over a decade now. Hank is turning 30 on March 2. He's not going to be here for another decade.

With that said I firmly believe that Sather is doing everything in his power to keep both Erixon and Kreider. Quite frankly I believe he can pull it off and will surprise a lot of people. Just check out the "Where were you when Scott Gomez was traded Thread," Sather and Gorton know what they're doing and I trust them 10000000%

yes.

id include Miller before the other 2, but it wouldnt phase me to include them either.

There are only so many roster spots to be had regardless.

I doubt Erixon goes anywhere, especially with how he got here.

30 is not old for a goalie.

To win multiple Stanley Cups, as opposed to winning one and then sucking for a decade afterwards.

It's still strange to read posts like this considering that there was a time not so long ago when that kind of thought would have seemed ludicrous.

I also think we keep Kreider and Erixon.. if we make a trade for Nash at all...

I think we lose one of McIlrath/Miller.

I think we lose St. Croix.

I think we lose this year's 1st.

I think we lose Dubi.

Dubi, McIlrath, St. Croix, 1st...

I agree with this. I trust Sather. I don't think the Kings can afford Nash, which helps us. Dregger reported the Sharks are now in it as well, but won't deal Couture. They have plenty of cap room.

and how have they been competitive for so long?

Stars.

In their prime

Usually on offense.

Yzerman
Shanahan
Fedorov
Dastyuk
Zetterberg
Lidstrom

it just keeps flowing from 1 generation to the next. They arent led by a bunch of 3rd and 4th liners..theyve got ELITE talent, and thats how they win.

Not to mention Hull, Hasek....and hell, didnt they even have Robitaille?

ppl act like having stars makes you some kind of garbage team...the Redwings are built on the backs of superstars. They just know how to cultivate a winning tradition and get those stars to play within the scope of the team concept.
