no other NHL team works like this and this is a guy we gave up a 1st rounder for....
the Islanders are a joke and so is the organization.....
Wang is all talk.......this was a salary cut...Weimer is a good player and for everybody who thinks Trent Hunter is a long term answer at wing, is kidding themselves....

I agree with everything you say---EXCEPT that I believe that T Hunter is going to be very good!!
wang is prepared to shell out $250M for a damn basketball team and the isles can't afford wiemer's salary? what gives? wiemer is not a second liner, but he can certainly play a very effective role on the bottom two lines. this is bull!

Its from a business prespective. Wang is losing $$ with the Isles, he is spending $$ to get the Ntes, but its a different business venture. On top of that if Wang buys the Nets it opens up the door for a new arena, which will bring in more revenue so more $$4 can be sent on the team.
first, you gotta believe that the 'leak' came from Wiemer or his agent about the Friday meeting. why? b/c it puts the NYI on the defensive in the press (this whole 'explanation' article) and Wiemer is definitely concerned about his image going to a new team: his 4th!
yes, it's about money. 1.6 million for a 3rd/4th liner for NYI is too much under [technically over] budget... it about pay vs. play. NYI think that Wiemer is expendable b/c of the BST logjam and Asham. (IMO - Asham has displayed more of what NYI expected of Wiemer than Wiemer himself for about 800K less) Fine with me...MM gave up too much in the original trade for Weimer, but since Mezei hasn't remained healthy or lived up to his '1st rounder status' i'm satisfied we didn't give up a blossoming player...
however, read between the lines...'highly respected veteran' ???? this veteran is going to his 4th team...i doubt each movement is about money. Seems to me like each time a team trades for him he does not fulfill the expectations that people have of him.
Sterling/MM have given BST kids their opportunity to shine...while it may be shortlived or longer, the top 9 on this team when healthy are NHL Players. Yash/Kvas/Chow; Blake/Peca/Parrish; Scatch/Asham/Bates ...
then Godard, Hunter, Bergenheim, Papineau, Mapletoft, Weinhandl, etc...for a 4th line that sees about 4-6 minutes per night (mainly when NYI are leading by 2 goals, there is a enough here to choose from)
keep complaining about money folks...somehow when NYI raised tix prices to maintain that 42 million dollar budget, everyone disappeared from the Coliseum to pay for it...blame the lease, blame whatever, but NYI fans know the building/lease situation and are on alert that tix sales are NYI revenue source ... cough up or shut up!
Weimer became expandable plain & simple. I would put Hunter ahead of Bates & Asham on the top 9 list.

gotta love this mess...so why would any team claim Wiemer? for one priority over others, however, if no one claims him, NYI will find a way to buy him out or send him to BST (that's great 2.6 mil in BST! - go MM!!!!!)...other teams can wait for NYI to buy him out, then use that buy out compensation against Wiemer when he is signed for a reduced price...
so, 1.6 mil - buyout is probably 650K
other teams offer him 400K for remainder of season...that's a steal...and probably what will exactly happen...b/c after the buyout Wiemer is more marketable and desperate to play..

it has to be done before season starts montreal did buyout Chow, and Mckay but it was before season started and player gets 70% of salary even if he gets boughtout!!
The Rangers are also believed to have put in a claim for the Islanders' 27-year-old third-line center, Jason Wiemer, who was placed on waivers. But the Rangers were sure that Wiemer, who will make $1.6 million this season, would be claimed by another team with a worse record.
Weimer was a high draft pick, and that's why he commands a high salary. It doesn't have much to do with his performance. Last year when he played with Scatchard and Blake, Weimer was very effective. This season he lost his niche with the Isles. If the Rangers want to throw their money around (ha ha ha), I'm sure he'll be as good as most of their players.
