You're forgetting that Les is a machine that doesn't appear to have ever actually played hockey, much less really understand the game beyond what he reads in the box score. Shame he has to come in and **** all over these threads.

I'd say the bigger shame is all the personal attacks people resort to when they don't understand or like the information that Les brings to the table.

Like it or not, most of us are evaluated our entire lives by statistics, NHL players are no exception, for them it's things like corsi instead of grades or sales numbers or what have you.

I see this is your 4th post on this board. Stick around a while. You might change your tune.

I agree with him. Attacking LW as a person is just dumb. You can disagree with his positions and you can make reasoned arguments against him, but giving up and making assumptions about him (which are untrue, by the way) as a method of argument is unhelpful.

I don't know where else to put it but why is the GDT locked and no continuation thread exists?

Can't talk about why it's locked, but feel free to start a PGDT.

Do you really want to discuss that game?

I agree with Jux. My motto is if you have something bad to say then dont say it at all.

That being said, it does go both ways, respect is a two way street. Thats all I am going to say.

The end result is the fact that percentages-driven success isn't sustainable in the NHL right now, certainly not on a team level and, except for at the margins, not at an individual player level. If your goal is to predict future performance, that's something you can use to your advantage.

The simplest answer is usually the correct one. In a sport that involves a randomly bouncing piece of vulcanized rubber as its focal point, and features 30 teams that don't have huge differences in skill between them, it makes more sense to attribute the fluctuations we observe in shooting and save percentage to luck or randomness or binomial variance or whatever you're comfortable calling it.
The mind of Les:

* Shooting percentage = completely random stat not based on skill or ability but totally based on chance.

* Shots and puck possession are the most important things ever, even if your team frequently out-shoots the other team and loses.

* Colin White hasn't been that bad this season. He's just had bad luck and bad goaltending behind him.

* "there's no evidence that players can suppress opposing shooting percentage"

* and..Stats, stats, stats, stats.

So Les, Why bother watching the games?

Aside from Couture, Vlasic, Burns, Desjardins, and Winchester, the entire team played like crap.

They're going to miss the playoffs if they don't knock this crap off and turn it around.
