As for Prust, he is to this team what Maltby/Mcarty (more the former than latter) was to Detroit and is a part of the core of the lockerroom. Even as a 4th/3rd liner. He should be kept.

He's easily earned a pay increase and a bit of security .
Exactly.

3 Years - 1,250,000 per is my guess.

The NHL had a compliance buyout period in late July 2005. More than one buyout could have been completed by the deadline set in late July 2005. The current CBA was finalized in July 2005.

The NBA allows 1 amnesty buyout per team in their current CBA. It can used at any time(during the off season) during the 10 years of CBA(owners/players have an opt out after 6 years)but the players must have been on the team roster before the lockout began in July 2011.

Prust@$1.5M is a bad deal but Rupp @$1.5M isn't? Prust is used on the PK with Boyle. He can fight. He is a glue guy. Great locker room presence. On the pre-game show last night,Derek Stepan was discussing how great Brandon Dubinsky and Prust have been to him. Prust has never made big money and he shouldn't take less. Get rid of Rupp and there's the $ for Prust.

Buy out Rupp??? I'm thinking no on that one. You don't take a tough, character guy who can play multiple positions and only puts a 1.5 mil dent in the cap and buy him out. Makes no sense.

About time--and he may be cheaper to sign now than after the season.

I like the guy but $1.5M may be a tad much.

We're talking about basically doubling the pay of someone who's role has been reduced this season and is on pace to score 4 or 5 goals?

On a short term deal, it's probably ok, but I'd be cautious about going anything beyond 1 or 2 years. We all know that things will probably be tight in a few years when our RFA's start going on their 2nd or 3rd contracts.

Well I hope they lock him up for another two years, but Ideally I still think that he and Boyle should be 4th liners, rather than 3rd.

I suppose if we upgrade our top 6 it won't be as big a deal.

Agreed. I like him for the role he plays: gritty 4th line type with a lot of heart. But when he exceeds the scope of that role it's hard for me to stomach watching him try to create offense when we need go ahead or game-tying goal. But that isn't his fault, it's Torts for giving him the ice time.

Very happy to hear this...we don't need another Jody Shelley situation, Prust is a valuable bottom line guy who does everything...fight, hit, forecheck, PK, etc. Love Prust.

I'd give him a 2 year deal at 1.2M/year or something in that neighborhood.

I would prefer a 2 year deal for Prust, MAYBE 3 if he sacrifices $ for another year of security.

His style of play takes a toll on his body. He's been pretty banged up this year. A long term commitment is risky.

By not matching or coming close to his offensive output from last year, the Rangers are going to save money, and it makes it less likely that Prust will want to test the waters to see what he can get come July 1. That said, the guy brings so many things to the table, in addition to being an extremely likable guy who's seemingly great in the room.

2 year deal in the 1.4M range (Fedotenko money) or 3 years in the 1.25 range. Extend him.

Who is more valuable...Boyle or Prust.

Boyle makes 1.7 per for 3 years..

Prust has to command at least 1.5 per for 3...

If I had to pick between the two...I take Prust 9 times out of 10.

Prust fo sho. the more he gets paid though, the less important he becomes....cheap players who produce >>> expensive players that produce.

The Rangers should compliance buyout Rupp when the new CBA is negotiated.

Prust will receive something very similar.
I mentioned that the other day and that he can be replaced by Bickel and we save about 1.5 million over 2 seasons , if we can get rid of him before next season starts . That is assuming Bickel signs for 750 Thousand which is ok for a rover / tough guy .

Yeah, I'm also not understanding the buyout Rupp sentiment. The last few offseasons should make clear that there's a mandate from somewhere (whether it be Sather or even Dolan) that this team carry a heavyweight on its roster. I'd much rather pay a little more for Rupp rather than have to dig through the UFA heavyweights again.

I wouldn't give him more then 2 years.

He has declined a bit this year and i'm worried with his playing style it will continue to decline.

I can live with 3, but I will be very annoyed if we give him 4 years.
