I think this should seal the deal with the Direction of the team.
- Many ownerships, many empty promises, A Gm even when he's not cutting is making stupid deals. Moves Bertuzzi/MaCabe and a 3rd for a
leader on the downside of his career, Moves Salo,Moves out a calder winner and brings in Potvin, Sells Loungo to the lowest bidder,
Drafts another goalie this goes on and on.
- A Owner at the least opportune time, raises prices, places a bid for the Nets and wants to trim salary. What was his long term vision
when he brought in Yashin for $90 million & Peca for $25 million. Was this a Milbury taking advantage of the enthusiasm?
- Good run the 1st year, better than most expected, lets go get tougher.
On comes Asham & Weimer. Following year tougher not always better
especially if you meet a more dynamic hockey team like Ottawa.
It really showcases that neither Wang nor Milbury really have any plans, if they did they would have stuck with the talent they had and moved forward with the likes of Loungo, heatly or Gaborik,Spezza,Pyatt,Connolly
Chara,Brewer etc... to form what all you guys want here, A solid base
to form a bonifide championship team not a "we'll fight for 8th" attitude.

Don't let anyone forget that it was and has always been about building a shopping/entertainment/sports complex in Nassau County. The islander organization is simply a vehicle for that goal. Too bad that the county's poor fiscal situation has once again thrown a wrench into another aggressive entrepeneur's plans. Wang and Islander management are simply churning the pot, in order to buy time for their grandiose development plans. That is why there appears to be no long range plan, together with adoption of the New Jersey Devil franchise model in terms of philosophy. They want to keep the islanders competitive and the islander fans (as well as a voting bloc and taxpayers) somewhat content at an affordable salary budget, so they can make a smooth transition to the ultimate aforementioned goal.
