Dreger just mentioned on the TSN panel that he thinks the Canucks are kicking the tires on Steve Ott (he mentioned a couple of other teams with interest as well, don't remember who).
Bob McKenzie also mentioned Daniel Winnik (Colorado) as a good depth forward who might be available. If Bitz is gonna be in and out of the lineup with injuries then Winnik might be a decent pickup as a fourth-line guy.
The other teams were Toronto and Philly. If this came from Lebrun or Mckenzie, I'd be more excited. Not sure how reliable Dreger is, especially with Canucks rumors. But anything is better than Canucks after Ott (E4!!!)
My hopes are up now. We better get Steve "BOOM" Ott
I think it would be highly amusing to put a Burrows - Lapierre - Ott line on the ice.
Ignoring his trolling attributes, however, Ott does bring a good combination of grit and skill. Not consistent enough for the top-six, but certainly a useful playoff-type player.

also hes a great penalty killer. I can just imagine Ott and Lappy having a competition of most hits a shift during the playoffs lol
Not dissing Ott's on-ice skills, which are evident, but he strikes me as a bit of a volatile, erratic personality. Not sure Gillis would want to risk adding that type of guy to the locker room.
But if they did acquire him I think he brings some of the snarl that Torres provided last year, which to me hasn't been adequately replaced.

Wears the A in dallas, his teammates love him.. So your assessment of him is wrong.

By all accounts, he's pretty much the opposite of his on-ice persona.
We don't have a single hard hitting forward now to lay big hits on opposing defenders. I'm all for Ott, he's an upgrade in Raymond atleast for this season. If we could grab him and Allen somehow were set.
Blogger for Hockey Buzz has proposed three trades. The first, in my opinion is godawful. The other two are pretty in line with what we are looking for.
Quote:
Trade 1
To Buffalo- Hodgson, Tanev and a 1st
For
To Vancouver- Myers
Analysis- Vancouver goes all in and get the D they need. Myers would become the centrepiece of Vancouver’s D for years to come. The price is steep for Vancouver, but I’m in if it could land us a player like Myers. Buffalo may be looking at options for next season, as this season clearly hasn’t worked at all. In my opinion, if they move a couple of their more marketable players, they may be able to get back on track. If I’m Buffalo’s GM I’m shopping Miller and Myers to clear cap space and get some good young players.
Trade 2
To Dallas- Raymond
For
To Vancouver- Ott
Analysis- Ott has been rumoured have been shopped a little by the Stars, for more of a cost cutting reason than any. Ott would be the perfect third line centre/wing in Vancouver. Despite him having lower corsi numbers than Raymond, I would still take him over him. He can win face-offs, kill penalties, score a bit and stir up ****. Not sure Raymond is enough for Ott, but maybe if Gillis talks about his corsi enough the Stars will buy in.
Trade 3
To Columbus- a 3rd rd pick
For
To Vancouver- Derek MacKenzie
Analysis- Vancouver gets a gritty depth player at a reasonable price. In my opinion, MacKenzie might be the most under valued player that gets moved at the deadline. He is a great penalty killer, who plays with speed, hits, and can win face-offs. He’s a perfect bottom 6 guy who can give you 8-12 quality minutes a night.
Thoughts? Am I off base with the 1st trade? Would you guys do it? Personally I think Tanev and Cody are more important to our club than a D man for this cup run. We should keep and move assets after this years run as the club is generally gelling. Hope instead for a rental D instead.
So we've gone from Perry to Carter to Nash and now to Ott. One of these things is not like the other. But of all of them, Ott makes the most sense. Which is why we will probably see the Canucks pick up Andreas Nodl (pronounced "Noodle") or someone else totally off the radar.
That's exactly why nobody was to sold on LaPierre. Look how that turned out.
I was coming to post that. For all the flak Lapierre gets from other fanbases around the league, he has bought into our system 100%. Plays between the whistles, defends his teammates, is generally useful and still difficult to play against. Periodically he goes "Yappy Lappy", but more often than not, it ends up working to our benefit.
We all knew the risks when he was acquired, but AV got him to buy in. If we were to acquire a guy like Ott, I think the same expectation would be applied.
Lappy on the fourth line. Ott on the third line. Kesler on the second line. Burrows on the first line. Bieksa patrolling the blue line. We would pretty much always have a hated player on the ice, someone the opposing teams just hate to play against. All of those guys are tough, too, but generally do not play dirty. I would like this.

I wouldn't do it. That's way too much of an overpayment. I realize Myers is young, big, and will be great, but Hodgson's just starting to emerge and he's the guy anchoring our 3rd line offense right now. You need to be able to produce with 3 lines to win the cup. Plus, I'm interested in what Tanev will develop into.
On a side note, when the hell did Myers sign that huge extension? I must've been sleeping in a cave because I don't remember it, but I'm sure I would've seen it, wow.

This made me lol. Love how you had to specify the pronounciation. Even better is that I found it useful haha.

Difference was, Vigneault was Lappy's coach before in juniors - combine that with the relative cheap price (a third round pick - doubt you'll get Ott for that pick).
