The Jets game was not the first time they have gone with three Forwards and one D-man in Regular Season OTs... IIRC
Way back it was quite common to go with four Forwards and one D-man on regular Power Plays... I'd say in either case the extra Forward is normally one that is a Two-Way player with excellent Defensive ability.
... I agree with the thinking that an all out effort to sew it up in OT... Not only because the Flyers flat-out suck in ShootOuts, but also because of ROW points that determine the firs seeding tiebreaker... a Win in OT is better than a Win through SO.
We're looking for playoff wins, not fodder points.
In the playoffs you can only win in OT.
2pts is and always will be better than 1pt. I understand "they" don't practice the shootout but every point counts. There is no such thing as fodder points.

Yeah, it was not the first time. And it also makes a lot of sense, especially for us, to go with three forwards and one d in ot. Not only because of our terrible shoot out record, but also because of our forward depth.

They spend 30 minutes working on something like shootouts, that's 30 minutes less to practice the power play, PK, etc. Shootout moves for the forwards are just things that do in their spare time, it's up to them to use something effective. For the goalies, you stop the puck, same as any breakaway. The problem is that Bryz's fundamental approach to breakaways is completely wrong; he doesn't know when to go down, when to come out a bit to challenge and cut down the angle, etc. The failures in shootout have been on both ends, but practicing it specifically is still a waste.
My biggest problem with the shoot-out is that Bettman thinks it has a place in Hockey, but then its not in the games that matter most, and a regular season tie-breaker is Regulation and OT wins as and not Shoot-out wins.

Well like I said, it is and should be up to them to do that on their own time. Skilled players shouldn't struggle in shootouts if they're creative enough, and goalies should be able to do enough to give their team a chance more than half the time. Winning shootouts should be a by-product of being a good hockey team, despite it not being hockey at all.
I could have swore someone posted on here last season or maybe the season before (lavis first) that at the end of each practice everyone gets 1 shootout attempt at the goalie. idk what ever happened to that
IIRC at this point of the season the Devils have 9 more points than the Flyers from Shootout Wins... and the Pens have 6 more... yes, SO points certainly can make a difference.
